  • The article mentions that Goldman signed the contract as a way into the consumer credit market and it looks like they want out. Out of both the Apple deal and consumer credit card market. So it sounds like they made some pretty big and terrible decisions here. Not just the deal with Apple but the entire strategy.

  • That would be awesome to have as an option in my car. Instead I get to use a window suction cup or (what I chose) replace the factory radio with a double din aftermarket head unit with CarPlay. I like CarPlay but would never want to have to rely on it for things like climate control or other similar functions. As a music player and GPS I love it. I hear great things about android auto as well.

  • I actually forgot about React so you have a very valid point there. I also use Roscksdb so that is also appreciated. My response was more of a gut reaction based upon FB as an organization. I lack trust in them much like I do with Oracle while still occasionally using Oracle Linux.

  • They do not forget! I had Comcast/Xfinity from 2005-2022. They wanted to charge me for an old cable box from 2005 that I didn’t have when I cancelled service. Turns out it was in the back of my garage and super rusty but they accepted it. They also said that while they would charge me if I didn’t have it, they are going to throw it out as it’s no longer supported and corroded.

  • This is such a tough one. On one hand Facebook has never done anything to help anyone not named Zuckerberg. On the other hand, most LLM processors are closed source. Maybe it has a call home function for data but my guess is that they will use this to get companies hooked and then offer a paid SaaS version that is much more capable and thus cements their technology as a major player. I am fine with that approach as long as the original is open source and available to the community who can fork.
