  • “And I never read Mein Kampf. They said, ‘Oh, Hitler said that’. In a much different way,” he said.

Note how he never says that what Hitler said or did was bad, but rather that he said what Hitler said in a different way.

I long for the days when something like this would be absolutely, unequivocally disqualifying.

  • The stock market isn’t the economy, at least as most Americans experience it, though it is the same metric that Trump and his followers used to show how “strong” the economy was during his term.

If I had a nickel for every time some Trump apologist said “sure, Trump’s a jerk, but how’s your 401(k)?” during 2017-2021, I’d have… a lot of nickels.

  • Would not be surprised if he was a spy.

Nah, the article says he was wandering around the plane trying to steal food and chat with strangers. That’s a lot of interactions over the course of an eight-hour flight. A spy would surely keep a much lower profile than that… Or maybe that’s how he throws people off his trail!

  • Maybe a controversial opinion, but I would have liked to see the Dems vote against the expulsion, or at least abstain. If he’d stayed in, the Democratic candidate running against him in November would have trounced him without even trying.

Also—and don’t get me wrong, he’s guilty as hell—he hasn’t actually been found guilty of anything yet.

  • One of my friends bought a RAM module directly from HP for his HP laptop. The module was identical to the one that came with the laptop, and the specs for the laptop said that it could support even more RAM than he installed (I forget the amount—this was 15 years ago). The computer recognized the RAM and everything worked great… for a couple hours, at which point it would slow down or freeze. I took a look at the laptop and noticed that it was running way hot. I took out the new RAM module, and everything went back to normal.

We then purchased two brand new, identical modules, with identical specs to the HP modules, and installed them in the computer. Same issue—everything worked great for a couple hours, and then it would lock up. I took out just one of the new modules, and the freezing problem stopped.

We contacted HP to ask if this was a known issue, and the answer was basically “yep, that happens. Try removing one stick of RAM.”

So yeah, that’s when I committed to never purchasing an HP product, and steering my family and friends away from them.

  • Passing just about anything in the Senate requires 60 votes (a filibuster-proof majority). They currently have 50 members. No Republicans would ever vote for anything that would be perceived as a Democratic victory. Saying that 50<60 is not making excuses, it’s just basic math.

  • But since Texas' problems are Red State Problems, Democrats don't give a shit on the national level.

It's why cannabis is still illegal at the federal level. It's why the federal minimum wage wasn't increased. It's why Democrats didn't bother to codify Roe. If it's a Red State Problem, it's not a problem. It's "got mine, fuck you" writ large.

You’re right that there need to be laws at the federal level, but you’re completely incorrect about democrats not giving a shit about passing legislation. The reality is that there aren’t enough votes to pass any of the legislation you mentioned in the House or the Senate, and the people who are blocking the progress are Republicans.

For example, the Raise the Wage Act of 2023 would massively raise the minimum wage over the next few years. Every single sponsor of the bill is a Democrat. It will not pass because Republicans will probably kill it in committee before it ever gets to a vote.

On abortion, Democrats have been trying to codify protections into law since 2013. Each time, the bills have been killed by Republicans.

  • I don’t disagree with you. But there’s also a flip side. Nazis and other bigots wouldn’t be so open in their bigotry, which could lead to them recruiting fewer people to their cause. Also, state actors such as Russia and China wouldn’t be able to sow mis- and disinformation so readily.

For the record, I believe Nikki’s plan is dumb and will never, ever happen. I’m just using my imagination to see some potential for benefits.
