Humans are vulnerable to propaganda. Lemmy's architecture is against censorship. This helps to push back against propaganda, but only so much. But at least not being censored is a big win IMO.
I don't understand these people at all. If I had 10 million dollars I'd be living the high life in a tropical country banging hookers left and right. Why is someone worth 600 billion so interested in something so boring and shitty as politics? Does he have no actual interests?
I mean, it is still objectively way better than most / all mainstream solutions. The issues is with the CEO's political stance, nothing about the technical implementation details or anything the company did wrong with managing your data.
I'm still interested in supporting a different company because of it, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Proton over Gmail any day.
Sometimes what's worse is when I am pretty sure something they suggest won't fix the bug and then it does fix it. Like I experienced a race condition in my Android email app and talked to support about it. They said try clear app data / cache and see if it worked. I thought there is no way that would solve it and they're just giving be the boilerplate support thing. It did fix it.
Now I'm even more scared at what their code is doing.
I'd argue there should be a flat out cap on wealth. Nobody should have 500 billion dollars. Not sure what it should be, but somewhere under 500 billion.
Meh, there are a bajillion other ways to participate in society. Not the same thing at all. I've been off Facebook for over fifteen years now and it's been great. I text or call people, and if they care about me they do the same. Sometimes I even get cards in the mail still. It's wonderful.
