  • No. The native American bit was for the "why don't Israelis just leave/give back the land?" people... Because after 70+ years people have grown up, worked hard, bought land, raised families, etc.

nobody I know in America would want to say "hey, I worked my whole life to (own my property, build my business, raise my family, etc) ... If the native Americans asked really hard I'd give it back" ...

But a lot of people are saying that the Israelis should just leave.

Edit. The other bit is that there are Muslims who live in Israel. There are Christians/atheists/etc who live in Israel as well.

Jews aren't welcome in SA, Iraq, Iran...

Concentration camp is not a good analogy for what's going on here

  • Link for the "literally admit" claim?

His words have always been to the effect of the reason we're not letting aid in is because hamas steals it from the people and lets them go hungry

Btw We still blame Bibi for not handling the war properly, only even agreeing to sit at the table for peace talks once he knew that trump would give him unlimited usage of weapons, and many other things.

  • Apologies in advance for the wall of text. We've had a lot of conversations....

Spouse is half Israeli with lots of family over there. I'm casually Jewish with AuDHD for context so we tend to see things really differently.

I personally don't like that religious countries exist in the first place. So I'm not only against Israel, but also most countries in that part of the world. "Just nuke that entire part of the world" has been mentioned quite a few times. So that's a bit of the conversation.

We tend to focus on the hostages when we talk about the war, and that Israel may be winning the ground war but it's losing the pr war.

We blame Bibi for keeping the war going and not making more surgical spy-type strikes. I used to say that he had one day to get the world behind him and say "look, this is what I've been talking about about!!!" That was all dismissed though when the first cease fire happened. Hamas broke it by sending some small numbers of missiles that got caught by the iron dome and Israel retaliated by sending 100x the number of missiles, killing several people. The news outlets all led with Israel sending the rockets and only briefly mentioned that Hamas struck first.

We blame Hamas for keeping all of their leaders in other countries and all of their weapons and missile silos in civilians backyards. Treating their citizens like shit and saying the only way their family is guaranteed to not go hungry is to join the military....

Just putting this out there .... If you're American and not native American. And native Americans were yelling "from sea to shining sea the native American tribes must be free" and started killing people, started saying how they want their land back and everything ..... How would that be treated?

  • I had the same culture shock once. Worked on the corporate side of a fitness club that said, we ask if you could please limit taking at most one class per day during work hours. Because people would end up taking class after class.... It was a soft rule that most of the die hard class fans broke all the time with no issues.

Place before that, if you were >15 min late, you had to interrupt the CEO with whatever meeting he had and tell him why you were late. Suppliers, partners, negotiations, doesn't matter the meeting. This was a non customer facing corporate job in a company of like 100+ people that was like 50+ years old..

  • So.... Iirc you can shuffle all of the episodes in a library .... Not sure about cross library. I just have one for TV and one for movies.

I know you can definitely make a smart playlist for the shows you want to shuffle through and go from there. Like I have a bunch of a few episodic tv shows, added them through regex to a smart playlist and hit shuffle all the time.

  • That's why. My folks still have cable and pay for HBO. That's how me and my siblings are able to watch stuff we don't want to download on max :)

My dad jokes that hes happy he knows how to turn on his phone ... Now his TV since that's "too complicated"

  • How technical is your dad?

Also honestly. Sometimes it's a lot nicer to just push a button and have something come on.

One of the main reasons I use Plex is their random feature. "Wanna watch a syndicated episodic show and don't care which ep? Press random" vs other streaming services you have to actually choose an episode.

  • As Cishet white-ish person, who is only tangentially connected to this community IRL, but wants to be supportive, is there a definitive list of pronouns? It seems to me and many other people that if you just keep adding more and more, people get confused and or feel alienated and then some people get angry when confused, because they get frustrated and don't want to do the wrong thing.

I usually default to "they" unless absolutely told, because It seems that once it gets so individualized, things go a bit nuts. We may as well just abolish all pronouns and only use proper nouns.

Side question, I'm neurodiverse (diagnosed ADHD, probably a bit on the spectrum), I feel very very weird before coming out to people, especially at work, as I think it will be used against me. There are still places in this world that would hurt/imprison/kill non-cis, non-hetero people. With such an interconnected world, especially with those places, how does one handle it while also trying to keep being proud of your identity? Wouldn't putting neo pronouns in a profile open you up for targeting?

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

How long does it take for neurotypical (or just typical) people to get over a minor fight?

  • After an impromptu upscale bar/lounge crawl with the wifey the other day.....

A shoe that can easily go back and forth from high heel/wedge to comfortable flats w/o much, if any, tooling or carrying around extra parts. She also brought a clutch purse

Wifey was dead the next day from foot pain of walking between places.

  • It's not just you. I hate texting in general unless it's for work. Usually if I'm running around on errands or a nice walk, I end up getting a text response to someone from an hour ago, and it boils my nerves that I feel I need to respond.

I'd rather be on a phone call to get all information in/out at once. Especially with wireless headset/earbuds

Though my therapist thinks I'm AuDHD. So that gives credence to your asd worry

  • ADHD @lemmy.world

USA ADHDers. Anybody have luck getting their stimulants abroad?

  • More popular, more commercially successful, and more accessible to casual fans. Agreed.

But for magnum opus, I gotta agree with the wall for a few reasons

    1. They made a movie out of it
    2. The ode to the intense para social relationships that revolve around stardom and how a truly crazy creative can take advantage of it in scary ways was not only true back then, but predictive of how much worse it would get in current time.
    3. DSotM always seemed like a lot of good ideas in an unordered list. I felt like they could be scrambled and the album would be similar, except for the first and last songs.. Meanwhile the wall tells a story of pain, alienation, search for meaning, lashing out, and then a quest for self-forgiveness.
