  • The MDC is administered by the federal bureau of prisons and plainly states in its own literature that it offers the nationalised standard menu. So me pointing you at the link to the nationalised standard menu couldn't be more relevant. It's literally what they have to eat in this place and other federal facilities.

  • It sounds good on paper at least. In reality it might depend a lot on the facility. It definitely demolishes the claim that SBF's only choice is is bread, water and peanut butter. He tried this same schtick when he was held in prison in the Bahamas for 10 days. Maybe it was true there but it sure as hell isn't true in the US. It's just pity party theatrics to garner some sympathy.

  • It's not speculation. You can google "federal prison menu" and see the national menu that prisons supply. Here is the 2022 menu. You will note as you read that menu that there are obviously vegan food items that SBF could eat from every single meal of every single day of the week. Breakfast? Fruit, coffee, bread, branflakes... Lunch? Beans, sweet potatoes, mash, salad, rice, baked potato... Dinner? Tacos, salads, tofu, soups, tater tots, cornbread, corn on the cob, hummus... In most cases he even has a viable main option, and even if he can't he could always trade his main to someone else for a side of theirs. Not to mention stuff he can buy in the commissary - ramen noodles, candy, crackers, cookies etc.

So in summary, SBF is lying and trying to drum up sympathy for his own self-inflicted situation. I'm sure prison food sucks compared to what mommy makes or what his ill gotten fortunes could buy, but he is not reduced to bread and water.

  • Same for gluten free diets. Some people think eating gluten free is healthy (it isn't), but cram your face with GF pizza, pasta, cookies and candy and you'll be as fat as anyone else. As for health, my kids are celiac so I frequently peruse the ingredients of these products and even simple GF breads can have dozens of ingredients to give it texture, bubbles, elasticity & taste similar to regular wheat bread.

  • Here is a sample federal prison menu. It's hard to see any day where he wouldn't have a significant choice off that list. Him claiming he only eats bread, water and peanut butter is just a play for pity and attention.

  • Most of the fruit, veg, rice, beans, oats, grits, bread, salad, condiments, pasta, juice etc. on the menu would be vegan any way. There might some mixed with milk or butter, but most is just going to be boiled, baked or fried in oil. Plus all the stuff from the commissary.

  • There are plenty of items on a typical prison menu he can eat without eating "baby cow", or "blended up chicks" as you put it. There is no need to live off bread and water when there are vegetables, fruit, salad, juice, rice, beans etc. I'm sure this will be pointed out to him and also the limits of what a system will accommodate - dietary or religious needs. Also, his ethics are why he is in prison in the first place so boo hoo for him.

  • Exactly. While he might have to find alternative sources of protein by forgoing meat there is obviously going to be ample stuff on the menu he can eat. If he claims he's living off bread and water, he is either an extraordinarily picky eater, or more likely just a liar out for some sympathy.

  • I don't believe his choices are THAT limited. Most prisons will have a self-service line with a choice of boiled veg, rice, beans, potatoes, pasta, fruit, grits, oats. Also, and just generally, boo hoo for him. Funny how his ethics extend to what he eats, but not who he steals from.

  • Strangely enough there is another baby murdering nurse in UK prison called Beverley Allitt who in 1993 killed children the same way. She's been inside for 30 years and is actually eligible for parole since she hasn't received a whole life order (i.e. to die in prison). Doesn't mean she'll get parole but expect an outcry if she ever does.

  • I've certainly run emulators, p2p software and other things on my android that Apple would never allow in their store but Google does, plus of course easy sideloading. I don't know if that would matter to kids but honestly when I run an iPhone or an Android phone these days the functionality is so similar that the choice just boils down to price and variety - Android phones sell at lots of price points and in a variety of form factors and iPhones don't. That means when I'm buying a kid a phone I can spend €100 on a PAYG device with a 6" screen that runs all their apps rather than the very cheapest iPhone for €549. Same functionality for less that 1/5th the price. I'm sure some kids don't see it in those terms but I do and I imagine most parents do.

  • My kids both have android phones (cheap ones) and if they demanded iPhones I'd tell them to gtfo. But my kids aren't brats and are content with their phones they have - cheap Samsungs - that are capable of running all the crap they're into - Tiktok, Snapchat, Whatsapp etc. Why would they even need anything more powerful?

Maybe there are private schools where phone snobbery is a thing and rich parents indulge their brats every desire. Maybe in that environment an iPhone holds an allure that an Android cannot match. But there are plenty of weird premium Android phones - flip phones, folding phones etc. so maybe that is nonsense too. If I were a spoiled brat with rich parents I might be demanding mommy & daddy buy me a Z Fold to show off. If my parents were super rich I might be demanding they get me a designer phone like a Vertu.

  • Warnings now do appear on the back of alcohol in the EU but they're usually small things on the back of the label stating the units of alcohol in the bottle & warning about drinking while pregnant or whatever.

  • I assume all instances have rules and how far out there you want to go is up to you. Someone says lemm.ee doesn't block these sites but rule 2 of that site is No Illegal Content which could arguably cover piracy related groups. Doesn't stop you just having an alt on the server hosting this stuff you want to look at however. Just be aware that if stuff is illegal and it's illegal in the jurisdiction the server is hosted in then it's unlikely to last long.

  • I think Hogwarts sold well because it was a genuinely good game which captured the spirit of the franchise, a decent story line, an explorable world and had some decent combat mechanics.

I think the JKR boycott did help in an underhanded way because most of the protesting was shrill straw man character assassination. People tuned it out and bought the game anyway based on word of mouth. The real losers in this nonsense were gaming websites who undermined their own credibility by boycotting the game or scoring it badly just and turning the review into a diatribe about gender politics.
