  • Garmin sell these beacon devices, which can be used to either check in with relatives, or to summon help to their location.

They're expensive, and intended more for people heading into remote areas, but might give you both some peace of mind, without tracking his every move.

  • Don't even know, between being frazzled plus mild paranoia, but have started on a long break from alcohol & on day three of cutting down (massively) on smokes with a view to quitting the latter entirely. Going well so far.

Trouble is, my ADHD meds seem to make me fiend nicotine in cigarette format to an alarming degree. Alcohol to a lesser extent. Though the meds are a big help, I don't know that they make me functional enough to take the physical health hit of either, nor the disarray caused by alcohol.

Which rather leaves me back at square one. Oh well.

  • Good question.

Has he been charged at federal level yet? Would imagine that federal prosecutors prefer to negotiate deals separately, but who knows what strategic arrangements go on behind the scenes.

Even if this won't touch the federal case, it would be worth his while, purely because state prisons are far gnarlier than federal. He's still likely to get some credit for having eventually cooperated at state level.

  • I'd imagine it is incredibly hard, and that entering with the knowledge the arrangement will only be temporary is unlikely to make handing back a child any easier emotionally, but from the article it seems some foster parents have been using the foster system as a means to circumvent the far more onerous adoption system, rather than merely finding themselves alarmed that a child they took in is being returned somewhere they believe to be unsuitable, and willing to fight such a return.

Have no issue with the latter, even if their beliefs happen to be incorrect (that's for the courts to sort out), but the former is an intentional manipulation of the lives of vulnerable children from the outset - before a placement has been initiated, before attachments have formed within a foster family, before the foster parents know any details of the lives of the biological parents & before any indications could have arisen that it would be in the best interests of a particular child to remain with their foster parents.

The whole area is a maze of incredibly difficult decisions, and I don't think there are obvious solutions, other than to remind judges in the family courts to be particularly cautious about the advice of experts & the behavioural theories they invoke.

  • Bitwarden is on FF, as are various video downloaders. Guessing from the title, equivalents of Singlepage. No idea what Forest or the others do, but a search by functionality may turf something up.

  • Depends on your aptitude & what you want the extensions to do (some being much more complex than others), but most people can learn the skills needed.

You'll only know if you try, but even if you can't manage to write exactly what you want, you'll learn a lot on the way.

There are great resources out there, and forums where you can seek help from more experienced people.

There's also Orion browser, which isn't FOSS, but which takes both Firefox & Chromium extensions.

  • Maybe run those through a browser you only use for that (and maybe to login to associated email accounts), then another browser for a youtube account that is solely for commenting & voting, then use invidious with max privacy settings as you please?

  • I was happy with the quality, and don't get more enjoyment from all the advancements since, but only ever remember plugging it into the wall, plugging an aerial into the back of it & pressing one button to get the tuner to pick up channels. Batteries into the remote once that became a thing. Plug in a VCR or DVD player once they appeared.

No need for a phone line or internet or updates.

  • Feels like everything is much more a faff to set up, then one bit updates & something or other is longer compatible.

Don't even want to think about the waste it must generate, both of devices & of the hours trying to get things to work whether at the development end or in the home.

  • Am lucky on this one, in that my country is generally supportive of Palestinians and even our neoliberal government has been critical of Israel's behaviour, now and also in the past. It is unlikely that they'd ban the protests.

Though if they did, it could easily result in far more people taking to the streets.

Wishing you all the best in your endeavours, wherever you are.
