Yeah, there are not a lot of alternatives. We'll see about matrix but that would mean more work for us too. I's not that we have anything against matrix really, it's that discord is what most of us had been using before.
That would interfere with any official matrix set up by our team should we decide to in the future. I appreciate your proposal don't get me wrong but then others will ask the same for their own ideas/projects and the announcement community is strictly for official Lemmy World announcements.
Why care so much. Nobody forces you to do anything, don't like it don't use it and you can still enjoy Lemmy World. The entitlement is a bit much honestly.
Edit: for some perspective. This comment currently has 23 downvotes, only 5 of them are from Lemmy World users that actually see the local pinned post.
I have to admit I haven't been buying a lot of new apps the last few years. I don't play games on my phone and most of the apps I use daily are basically the same ones for a few years already.
FX file explorer
An excellent file manager that I have been using since forever. There are other good ones, such as Solid Explorer, but FX is my favorite.
Tasker
I used to play around with this so much, the things you can do with this app are endless. But I have been using it less lately, switched to Google home since it has better/easier integration with other devices in the house.
Nova Launcher
I think most of you will be familiar with this launcher. I have probably been using this one since it came out. It's perfect!
JuiceSSH Pro
To be honest I don't even know what features are unlocked by purchasing the pro edition without looking because it has been so long since I bought it. It's an SSH cliΓ«nt and one of my most-used apps.
Sync for Lemmy
There are plenty of Lemmy apps that are good but I was using Sync for Reddit since forever so I jumped on the hype-train when it came out. I paid for Ultra monthly because 2β¬ per month for something I use daily is a no-brainer.
Besides these there are some Google Wear watch faces I purchased. There had been other apps that I bought years ago like sdmaid or some other tools from when I used to install custom roms but I don't really use those anymore - too much hassle for marginal improvements. And the question was about apps that are still relevant.
Well you say that but we have plenty of sysadmins who applied and most of us are it professionals already doing this as a hobby project. I think we tackled that in our most recent announcement. If that is not for you that is fine.
The donations to mastodon.world are shared with those to lemmy.world. LW admin Ruud has been very open in his near-monthly blogs: https://blog.mastodon.world/
These blog posts are also announced on Lemmy World. I think it is all pretty clear.
Who you are talking about is indeed an option because he was genuinely pissed off.. He created scripts to create thousands of communities so we set up rate limits π
But there are plenty more who don't want LW to succeed. Be it banned users, defederated instances or just someone with too much time looking to take down the biggest instance.
There was also a (now banned) reddit mod who used to moderate gamingcirclejerk there and she demanded me to hand over the gamingcirclejerk community on LW to her. To just take it from the current team. I said no but I can be a middleman but she wanted none of that. She wanted the red carpet laid out 'because reddit mod' so she had the right to it π
She was also a very known user on an instance we recently defederated with.
So just wanted to clear that up here. We have suspicions but no proof. Thanks for your support π«Ά
We use it for chat and vc. Announcements go here.
Edit: you are not even an LW user so you don't even see it pinned.
