Yeah, I was also starting to lean toward putting NextCloud on the OPi. There's just not much happening on my OPi and I was only hesitating from trying that because I didn't think the OPi could handle it, but it's worth trying.
I may not have labeled that accurately, I just plan to use Tailscale to access these services from specific authorized devices.
I meant "before I do something that is a pain to correct". Like starting with the wrong OS or file system format.
My plan is to build a media server which will include 4k media, so I think my storage may need to grow over time... maybe TrueNAS is something I can add later if needed?
I guess the reason I was thinking of 2 separate machines is that I've heard using an OPi as a media server or NextCloud server will go really slow and potentially cause other issues. Plus I already have an old computer doing nothing right now, just needs new SSDs.
Could you expand on that? If I were looking for federated platforms that get a lot of activity from artists posting their work, what would you recommend?
I feel ya. I have a dog and three cats, but so far have not had an issue with hair or cable chewing. The frame is essentially just a kit of 2020 extruded aluminum t-slot rails with connectors. If I were to do this again, I would probably not go with a kit and instead just buy the rails and connectors I need for my specific motherboard/components. Also, any extra rails/connectors you get could go toward a DIY 3D printing frame (that's my next project)!
I'm trying out those settings you suggested and it does seem like it would mostly solve the issue for me, but you can see from the volume of comments that I am not alone in being unaware of the magic combination of settings that would make the default behavior of the app less frustrating.
I think it's still a good idea to either prevent the back button from taking the user from their Posts page to the Communities page, or to include a method of returning to the last spot in the Posts page.
I'm also not a fan of memes, but I acknowledge that many other people are. The most I can do is block communities that are expressly for memes and shrug off the rest. There's plenty of other places for grouches like us.
On one hand, there will always be idiots and those who will take advantage of them.
On the other hand, I think less people would be susceptible to "alternative" remedies if there was more trust in the medical industry. That trust has been eroded quite a bit over the years.
Another one that gets me is "portal". I'm often asked to create a this portal or that portal, but once I finally get them to describe the requirements it's just a standard web form or static web page.
Apparently it stands for Computer, I guess to distinguish them from TTRPGs. Had to Google it because they never bothered to spell out the initialized term in the article.
