I mean I'm in my 40s now, but we still have spread sheets, Word documents, and web pages don't we?
And I think everyone still knows hard drives are at least a thing? I can buy people in their early 30 or under never used a floppy, but we've all used some form of hard disk.
Also, I noticed no argument of the safe suggestion, and I hazard a guess many fewer of us have used an actual safe than a hard disk, especially a safe with a big swinging lock, but I think the majority could get the intent of putting something in a safe. Perhaps an open safe with an arrow going in if we want to be grandiose about it? 😉
Tell myself I don't need it. If I can get by using anything I already have or can borrow, this is a total financial win.
If I need something, research the hell out of it. This takes time, which boosts the chances of step 1 working out. It also lets me see what's currently available, and I can compare my needs vs available products. Will the cheapest item work for me, or do I need something with more features or durability. It may be more upfront, but that is usually cheaper than buying twice and better than having an item break when you're using it. Also gives me time to realize I will never use all the extra features of the fancier models. I also see the price range of products and can now tell when they go on sale and for how much so I don't overpay. If it is available on Amazon, I can use the CamelCamelCamel website to see if and when it goes on sale, even if I don't buy it from there. You can also set an email price alert there to notify you when it goes on sale.
Try to figure out a solution for step 1 again.
Give in and buy it when it's on sale if it goes on sale.
I just ran through this with purchasing a vacuum sealer. I've wanted one for many years but didn't know if I'd use it enough to be worth it. My brother got one just to use with stuff we get from hunting once a year. It worked out great for that and he had a very basic model.
Since he only used it once a year, I "borrowed" it for a year and it turns out I do use it a few times a month and I've found a number of traditional and less traditional uses for having one. I also got to see what I liked about his unit and what I wished it had.
After reading reviews and watching videos for the year, I narrowed it down to 2, a basic one, and an upgrade. The basic was mostly the same as my borrowed one, but a different brand. The upgrade had built in bag storage, a cutter, a few extra sealing modes, a double sealing bar, and a more hands free lock. The basic would do fine, but I would still need a place to store the bag roll, and I used a paper cutter to cut the bags so I didn't waste bag material or have a bad seal from an uneven edge, so that's more I have to lug out every time I wanted to use it. The upgrade had that built in, so I just get out one thing, and the double seal would prevent more bad seals, as all would have a backup seal with no additional sealing time. It also has a pulse function so I could seal softer foods like breads and chips and marinated items, which I would use regularly. So the upgrade was the way to go for me.
I saw the regular price was around 150, but it went on sale a few times a year for 99. Low and behold the other day I hear this trade war stuff and electronics was a thing that was going to take a beating, and food is still getting more expensive. Amazon has it for 150 still, but the manufacturer had it for 100 and free shipping. Perfect!
It has a 2 year warranty but my one credit card extends factory warranties under 3 years for 50% longer, so I used that. So now I will have what should be the best unit for me, unpaid 30% less, and have 50% more warranty.
That, to me, is a strong financial purchasing decision.
I'm not sure if the work distribution is part of the point or not. The protests would have to be huge though for that to make a dent I'd think though.
Part of what these protests are against is the removal of protections for employees, so having people risk employment during this time does seem a bit problematic.
I really don't know what we're supposed to do anymore, especially living in a time with surveillance everywhere. I'm just volunteering in my community and letting people know I'm on their side should they need me.
I think I actually had a coat once with a hidden pocket like this that I didn't know about until I had it for quite some time! It wasn't big enough to hold a lot, but it was a very secret stash. Even some coats I have with inside pockets blend in very well, but those probably wouldn't pass someone searching me at a checkpoint of any kind.
They are really going full speed on the destruction of near everything. I thought it would be more methodical, but it seems scorched earth is what they're going for.
My heart goes out to you, it seems like trans rights were just starting to catch on and now it feels like you're in more danger than ever. But none of us that do support you did so just because the gov told us it was ok now, so we won't stop just because of crap like this. Millions are still on your side.
Not a topic I'm super familiar with, but I feel I've heard people often are either robbed or have their items confiscated by authorities. Same with unhoused people not wanting to have stuff that would make them a target.
If it was something you had a little bit of prep time for, ziplocking USD or EU and seeing it into a grubby jacket where the repairs would blend in and not garner attention would be the most portable and effective thing to do while minimizing theft potential, other than having all eggs in one basket unless you split it between different garments. Also make sure it is pretty weatherproof to prevent mold damage.
It also has the benefit of being immediately usable, should you need to pay for transport or food. If it was seen in a puffy coat, one could discreetly remove one pack of bills while leaving the rest secure. The immediacy that cash can be used may make up for having something potentially more valuable that you would have to barter or fence, as pretty much any human has a need for cash.
It feels much more social being here not despite the smaller audience, but because of it.
People have time to respond to me if I have a question, and I have time to give really good and complete responses to anyone that asks me about something I post.
My immediate family is largely conservative voters, and they go on about what government should do, and it's all decently lefty suggestions, but try to point that out to them and they go nuts. Most people just seem very ignorant of politics in general.
I always understood that one of the advantages of representative government over democracy was that the majority cannot simply vote to crush the minority whenever they were in the mood to do so. The representative is supposed to represent the best interest of everyone they are there to represent, not just a select portion of them.
Ah, good points! Thinking about it again, usually female birds and reptiles are physically larger too, so that would also be noticeable gender difference too, though the female platypus seems smaller than the males.
There sure are a lot of things people take for granted that hormones regulate!
I was a bit surprised to see where exactly it was, but then again the local car dealership was plastered with signs for the guy running for office that assaulted a senior citizen at a clinic while he brought his 12 yr old to watch, and right down the road from that is the farm that was all plastered with giant signs and trailers covered with Trump and Jesus banners. It's a shame how often beautiful farmland here gets uglied up with that crap.
If egg-humans were monotremes like a platypus, they would still have mammary glands, but they are also internal. They don't have nipples, but instead secrete milk through pores in the skin, somewhat like sweating milk, that the babies will just lick at. Other egg layers like birds and reptiles just have babies that hatch ready for regular food, so they don't have any mammaries to worry about.
May be a little off topic, but do hormones actually affect personality? With no external sex organs of any kind, would transitioning even be a thing? Other than preventing a female from laying an egg, would there be any benefit to any kind of hormonal therapy?
To the best of my knowledge, all egg layers have cloaca (the one hole) and no external sex organs, so that could abate a bunch of pointless culture war stuff.
I was going to go with unlimited French Toast, but as the price of chicken eggs approaches Fabergé eggs, that may not work out.
Switching to garlic bread, croutons, and
croque madamedang it!
