  • They mention standardisations and cost savings in their paper, as well as solving the heat load per cell problem by decreasing cell size. They also mention that there's been a lot of micro-CPV module designs but that they haven't been scaled up. Some quotes below:

Various researchers and developers have been exploring different micro-CPV module designs [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13]. Most approaches have been tested on small prototypes or minimodules, while fewer have been realized with aperture areas (Aap) above 200 and 800 cm2,[...]

By decreasing the sizes of the primary optics and the solar cells, the heat load per cell is minimized. This reduction allows for sufficient heat spreading via the circuit board, enabling the direct assembly of solar cells onto the circuit board on glass.

At Fraunhofer ISE, we have developed a micro-CPV module concept [17], [18], [19], [20], [21], which is based on parallelized manufacturing processes and commercially available components.

The final module features a panel size of 24” × 18”, which is a standard in the microelectronics industry, facilitating machine adaption without necessitating special adjustments.

  • What are concentrating photovoltaics? One of the ways to increase the output from the photovoltaic systems is to supply concentrated light onto the PV cells. This can be done by using optical light collectors, such as lenses or mirrors. The PV systems that use concentrated light are called concentrating photovoltaics (CPV). The CPV collect light from a larger area and concentrate it to a smaller area solar cell. This is illustrated in Figure 5.1.

Also, from the article - 33.6% efficiency in real-world conditions:

A 60 cell-lens prototype was studied for a year. In "real-world" conditions, CPVs achieved up to 33.6% efficiency. The 36% mark was posted at 167 degrees Fahrenheit. The prototype showed no signs of degradation, according to IE.

  • Yeah, if the user can't verify the truthfulness of the LLM generated text then it has no use as it can't be trusted.
I'd say the thing LLM is best at for me is giving me a starting point, in the same way that it is easier to fix someone else's writing than it is to write something from a blank slate. Oh and copilot is generally up to date on where in Microsoft 365 Admin you find an option right now, compared to all the outdated official and unofficial guides out there.

  • Why use apps instead of a browser and why hop?
There are still fully functioning phpbb forums out there if forums are your thing, not to mention that the fediverse can just be forked and remain in existence if someone tries to steal it.

  • It depends on how you choose to play it, I guess. For some it's definitely a management game where you go from space port to space port to trade. Others play it as a pirate hunting game where they fight space pirates and sell the loot and that's just the sandbox elements, there's also storylines and missions you can run. :)

  • ... are the wedges the only non fried food in this picture?

    How about boiling them tatoes?

Or simply pan fry them with some butter?

Anyways; 1. Wedges, 2. Waffles, 3. Shoestring with surprise sweet potatoes > The rest.

  • Just something to consider as you're thinking about using a virtual machine for windows; you have enough RAM to comfortably run a linux host with Windows 11 + Debian Stable VMs for work + work db server.
I'm allergic to mixing private stuff with work stuff and there's a great thing to be able to shut work down at the end of the day. (Freeing up all your hardware for your private fun at the same time)

  • Pro of running an immutable distro is that it is much harder to break during daily use. The con is that you're pretty much setup to only use flatpaks and some things like abraunegg's onedrive aren't available as a flatpak.

Have you considered making the Win10 Win11 VM a complete work jail? If you do all things work in there then you get a nice separation of private and work and won't have to worry about work apps linux compatibility.
edit: Windows 10 support ends on October 14, 2025

I find that the last ones, (5) a majority of people are concerned about climate change and support climate action (‘Others care’); and (6) actions can be taken to limit the harm (‘There’s hope’)., are the ones I'm failing some days.
There's just too much news that appear to tell the opposite of (5) and that leads to not believing in (6).

  • You've chosen an immutable distro based on rpm-ostree. If you want to install a program/application/app then flatpak is the way.
Heroic Launcher works great for installing GOG/Epic games but if you want to install a game or other program from an offline installer then I still fall back to Lutris.

For more in-depth read up on rpm-ostree and flatpak

  • Would an alternative be to simply edit the pdfs?

The german software FlexiPDF still allows you to buy a yearly version for a one off sum and allow you to use a free trial with watermark to check whether it works well enough for you before you buy.
