They accuse them of bad journalism. Supposing intent you can't prove is the definition of bad journalism. People need to temper their instinctual emotions a bit. I'm upset about Trump being a serial liar too (which I can say, because I'm a nobody who can totally infer his intent) but cmon, can we not leave the very foundations of factual journalism in the dust in our quest to right that wrong?

Even for Trump, this one is a lot. It was essentially his campaign slogan. He didn't just say it, he led chants of it in front of crowds.

I don't agree, but thanks for posting an actually unpopular opinion. Based on the voting, this sub should just get renamed to popularopinion and be done with it.

Passion is cheap, law is hard. It's ridiculously hard to set your passions aside in cases like these, but it should be done. The state should not have the ability to kill their citizens based on a legal process they also control at all levels. It only takes a slight reduction in criteria for evidence or severity to put us all in danger as citizens. I know you generally agree, but I think it's worth stating. This man should be in prison for the rest of his life, but we all lose when we let the state indulge our passions.

You forgot the "WITHOUT PREJUDICE" they add to everything.

"Abstinence" is an appropriate word here, but it did make me do a mental double-take imagining what drugs required you not to have sex.

I sure hope he does go to prison, although I doubt it. Right-wing assholes never go to jail if they get enough power, and I hardly see anyone with the power and willingness to hold him accountable. As with most politicians, it'll have to be their constituency who holds them accountable or they're just the face of something much larger that can't just be thrown into a jail.

You can accuse me of a lot of things and I won't even argue with "sanctimonious asshole", to be honest. I'm absolutely not pre-judging though, because I understand the difficulty and nuance to negotiating international peace deals between diametrically opposed religious states. I'm going to let this new proposal play out and not just start throwing shit everywhere because I'm frustrated, before a single bit of dialogue has even played out. Each proposal is a new opportunity for peace and I would be an utter cunt to go around shitting on every new attempt just because I'm feeling a bit hopeless about it. So no, I reject that "that's me", but those of you who want to watch and discuss complex geopolitical affairs this way, be my guest.

There is a lot of nuance to that. If Trump appeals on constitutional grounds, the Supreme Court can choose to hear it. State cases can be appealed to the SC if their interpretation of federal law or the constitution are in dispute. They normally just outright deny hearing most cases decided by state courts. A good chunk of the supreme court is likely to grant whatever the hell he wants though, so I'm not so certain anything that boils down to interpretation is safe.

That wouldn't be necessary. Presidents have the power to pardon and nothing says it cannot be used on the self.

If you are going to take your angst at capitalism and point it at other workers, overpaid or no, you are both shooting yourself in the foot and undermining your own points. Point your anger at the owning class who makes magnitudes more money by doing and producing nothing, who actively works against your political aims, and generally makes the world a worse place.

I work with devs who make 500k plus and most of them are fairly progressive people who just got lucky with their choice of profession. They're not your enemy.

Yeah, Manchin is obviously a grifter with a lot of oil/gas backing. Dude sucks. I just always take a shitty option with some benefit over the entirely shitty option. The congressional math is tight this year and if Trump gets back in, it'll be our only possible last check (even if we're likely fucked regardless).

I'm with you though, hopefully it doesn't matter. I would be over the moon to see yall re-elect a Dem (even a blue dog) over the possible alternatives, but I'm not holding my breath. Either way, I'm wishing the best for you all.

I'm not one of his constituents, but I'll sure miss his votes on judges. We should have drowned him out with more progressive peers before running him out or letting him retire. He's almost certainly going to be replaced by Justice, who is going to be a Trumpian nightmare for you and his other constituents. Manchin does not fit my ideals either but... I'd sure like to nominate some supreme court justices.

Definitely got that election night feeling in my gut. Hate this, I'm not ready for November.

My secret wish is to see him get a form of community service that is supremely humiliating to someone like him. Show his distaste for actual work, undercut the persecution narrative by going "soft", and kill his campaign. Honestly though, this one is going to need a good judge. It's hard to be dispassionate when sentencing, especially in this context. Merchan seems alright, I think he'll be fair, even if I hate it because the bastard doesn't deserve anything but what he's given out.

Might be wishful thinking or stale in 15-30 minutes but I think they at least get him on the checks. I imagine we'll all be very disappointed if/when sentencing occurs though.

Why is it bad? The divide between people who play games on the phone and "real gamers" seems mostly cultural. From a research and financial perspective, there's no reason to treat them any differently. Dollars are dollars, regardless of what platform they get spent on.

It's funny. I have enjoyed all of those games now. TF2 isn't for me, but every game in the Box was a certified classic. When it came out though, these games being bundled together under a generic label gave me the impression that it was low-quality, so I skipped it. I was from a rural area with essentially no internet access and there weren't a lot of other PC gamers out there to correct that misconception, so I didn't play these games for way too long.
