  • I don't think we should completely neglect our passions. They make us who we are and define our truest selves! Passion is blinding though. Anyone who has ever felt true passion about anything knows this. It takes both passion and cold logic to achieve truly good things. Passion is inherently the stronger of the two though, so you have to set it aside (temporarily) to truly indulge your logic. Then put those together.

I definitely do not agree with using passion as the center of your political movement. That's demagoguery, by definition. It's common and we're all susceptible to it, but it's not a good thing.

I agree with you re: the origins of Hamas. It truly could not matter less right now. Hamas exists, and they're doing terrible things to Palestinians and Israelis alike, just like Israel is. They're both issues we need to solve and I'm not willing to set one aside for the other.

  • I mean... I don't disagree with your original point (within reason) but the guy complaining about the free chicken sandwich kinda sucks too? Idk about yall but I would never say that to someone who gave me free food. Think it's just a rough metaphor for this situation, where Valorant is still trying to make money from in game purchases.

So if someone gave you a free sandwich but then also offered the exclusive place to sell mayonnaise, seasonings, and pickles, you're fairly entitled to say "eh, this base product is kinda lacking and doesn't entice me to come here".

  • That's not really what they said though. They said that this is not intended as a security mechanism, which is debatable from their original docs. They are maintaining that this was always intended to be used for routing and not as a source for block/allow lists. Frankly, regardless of your opinion on whether Microsoft is misrepresenting their original docs, nobody should be using Service Tags as security. Microsoft is completely correct there.

  • I'm with you here. I don't like this EO, but wtf else is he supposed to do? It's the number one issue for a huge chunk of the populace. We're gonna have to do better than complaining about it to give any government official options that aren't just restrictions. People are hurting and dumb, and they blame immigrants. Solve that at the root, but you can't ignore it in the meantime.

  • No, they're not. You're just willing to undermine the foundations of journalism to get at Trump, which is not conducive to the long-term health of our democracy. Hell , let's just scrub the first amendment while we're at it! Then we can throw him in jail for lying! WOOOOO!

Some things are sacred for a reason. They're more important than Trump, than this moment in our history. You're trying to pull a reverse McCarthy where we just lower every bar to get at our enemies. It doesn't make us as bad as them, but it makes us something new that is also bad. I'm not okay with it, and I'm glad these news agencies are on that same page.

And really, let's zoom out for five fucking seconds. "These journalists are all getting played" By fucking what?? By saying "untruth" instead of "lie", which every person in this country is going to read nigh identically? Really, that's the big Trump win? Christ alive, yall are so politically weird and ineffective.

  • I'm just a member of the LGBT community. But also, I am an American, which means kinda, but not directly. Hamas does not have a rosy view on people from the US.

But also... Hamas terrorizes Palestinians as well, so not sure what point you're trying to make here.

Edit: Not sure who replied, but I have you blocked. Just didn't want you to have to wait for a response.

  • Yknow, I won't even say it's not hard. It can be so hard when you're bombarded by horrific images and stories every day. It sucks and it puts people into very passionate mindsets. Passion is the death of reason though, and we'd all be better served engaging our super ego a bit, taking a deep breath, and saying "Hey, I'm upset right now, but I need to try to look at this objectively". You don't have to shove anything under a rug. You don't have to make excuses for anyone. Just... try to think separate from your feelings. It's a useful exercise.

Israel is committing war crimes and genocide in Gaza. Hamas committed horrific acts of terrorism on Oct 6 and had continued to commit horrific acts concerning the hostages. We can keep going and listing every little thing going back millenia, but we cannot lose sight of the fact that both of these groups are religious extremism writ large, deserve condemnation, and are actively persecuting the Palestinian people.

  • People are getting so caught up in Israel's genocidal bullshit (which is heinous and horrific, to be explicit so I don't get dog piled) that they seem to be forgetting that Hamas is a literal terrorist group that would happily kill us all, and also subjugates Palestinians. They did take hostages, they have killed some, and they have treated them all very poorly by all accounts. You can hate both sides of this one guys, it's pretty easy.

Thanks for posting the article and your thoughts, Mr. Squid.

  • Just gonna say it again, yall need to learn to fucking read. Nobody is "trying to find reasons to proposterously believe Trump accidentally lied". Let me clear since yall are genuinely scarily bad at reading comprehension: Trump lied. He lies a lot and we all know it. I know it. He lied this time, just like he lied all the other times. Easy for me to say, because I will not be sued and I am not in a position of power, which allows me to play whatever game I want and say whatever I want.

Journalists are journalists. They do journalism. There are rules to proper journalism. One of those is having evidence. Do you have hard evidence that Trump knowingly told an untruth in this case? Texts from him? Documents? Not assumptions, even perfectly solid ones, but actual evidence. No, you don't. Nobody does. The journalists don't either. They can be sued for defamation and, more importantly, it's not CNN's job to tell us how to fucking think, period. Telling us shit based on assumptions, even good ones, is telling us how to think. I'm not okay with that and you shouldn't be either.

  • Yeah I'd say it was an issue of not "clicking" at first, but I think I defined it a bit more before I dropped my first playthrough. For me, the primary appeal of a Bethesda RPG is that "take off in a direction, you'll find a story" feel. Starfield kinda has it, but they broke it up with weird design choices. The insanely frequent, lengthy cutscenes cut into the continuous flow. Having to travel at all between planets broke up the action and flow. The choice to use procedural generation was odd and really took away from the more intentional feel of prior Bethesda games, and really cut away some of the quality and quantity of environmental storytelling.

That's my very surface level opinions from what I remember. It's been a minute since I played it at release.

  • Because it's the point of the sub as indicated by the name? Why would anyone want to post an unpopular opinion here after the votes and comments on this thread? And to be clear, this is insanely low stakes. I could not care any less if this becomes popular opinion sub #1000 that I can add to my block list. But...assuming we're here in these comments because we like the idea of the sub, does it not make sense to embrace that and upvote the unpopular stuff? I'm also thinking through things like sorting by all time, which is ruined for this sub if the votes continue like this.

  • Yall are getting downvoted, but I think it's great that you have a game you like. I can even see the perspective of this being a better Outer Worlds. I think people like myself are just upset that we didn't get scifi skyrim. Just saying "scifi skyrim" got me excited again for a game that they unfortunately did not release. Don't take the downvotes personally imo, people are just mad at Bethesda.

  • This is dumb. The government does thousands of disparate things every day. It's thousands on thousands of people. Having the government chase single issues as a whole would be asinine, ineffective, and the definition of bad government.

Secondly, the radicalization of our citizenry into authoritative tendencies is one of the most pressing issues we are facing. I'm not sure a video game is going to be the solve, but I'm happy to see the government support the arts regardless.

  • Of course you can prove he said that. That's the untruth. Can you prove he knew he lied? You and I know that because it's clear as day and we don't need strict evidence, but journalists do because their job is to report facts and not assumptions, even obvious ones. It's your job as a reader to take those facts and the surrounding context to construct what happened. They should not have to spoonfeed this to us in the exact verbiage we want just because we want to score a few more points because CNN said "lie".

And you should genuinely be ashamed of your reading comprehension. Your response does not make sense considering what I wrote above. I addressed that directly.

  • Why does journalism need to spoonfeed people? Why can't we take accountability? They report the facts. Facts are provable, with evidence. You can only very, very rarely prove intent with evidence. A lie is an untruth delivered with intent. They cannot prove that and as such should not report it. We, as readers, should then piece the facts together. They're giving you facts, not teaching you how to think. It's not their job.

  • That's certainly a good explanation, but it really calls into question the viability of a sub like this. On reddit, the engaged folks drown it out and mostly keep the unpopular opinions intact. This and the super highly-upvoted political stuff just makes it look like this sub has no purpose at all.
