  • I’m not going to… use click bait sounding arguments

religion is a cult that’s actively making the world a worse place

So what you did there is contradict yourself.

And considering that you keep responding to my comments and (poorly) defending your argument, you clearly care a lot about my opinion.

You also really gotta clean up this thesis of yours. Besides the brutal and ignorant simplicity, you need to find a noun other than “cult.” I get what you’re trying to say, but by using cult in this manner you are essentially arguing that we need to change the definition of the word “cult” instead of remove all religion (which seems to be your goal).*

*I’m not really going to expand more on what I mean by how you use the word “cult” cause it would require me to write a much more interesting essay than your poorly thought out idea.

  • “The over 100 upvotes say otherwise”🤓 grow up lmao

And buddy we literally agreed ab how scripture/prophets/religious ideas are often co-opted for power over a group of people.

I’m just tryna let you know that your argument sounded stupid lol. Try using specific evidence for arguments next time.

For example “religion is a cult…” is an awful start to an argument. 1) wtf is religion, that is a very broad term 2) the religion you’re mentioning is written in the singular, are you trying to say that all world religions are actually the same religion? 3) what about this (singular?) cult is actively making the world worse?

Instead try saying something like “Zionist politicians purposely mislead their constituents through well chosen scripture in order to garner support for the genocide of thousands.”

See how my statement was the effectively the same as your argument, but it uses more precise language and points to a specific modern day example.

  • Why didn’t you start with that 😭 your original argument sounded so silly. Hell you could’ve said smtn interesting like how an originally innocuous scripture was co-opted for nefarious purposes but instead you just wanted to sound like an 8th grader who found r/atheism for the first time 💔

  • Dawg I ain’t saying organized religion is innocent. But it is false to claim that the sole purpose of religion is to control the masses. Your original comment was also just wrong like bruh, how can you claim that a figure like Jesus (the guy flipping tables in the marketplace, preaching ab how the poor are the most holy, saving the lepers, etc) was actually an evil psychopath who had a long game where he was going to fleece the poor of their wealth and threaten people with eternal damnation so they would follow him. That’s just some braindead conspiracy shit where you’re afraid everyone is out to get you. Grow up

  • You can’t call every christian a rube and then make such a simplistic accusation about organized religion. Yes there are (major) flaws with organized religion, but surely you realize your statement is at best hyperbole and at worst moronic

  • Dude you’re not understanding my point. Like I said, it matters how the film/situation is shown to the audience. Yes interstellar is fictional, but it is also about a possible future for our planet. All it does is buy into the trope of saving the planet through space, and show audiences how seemingly cool that would be.

I never said I didn’t like the scene it was set in, I said I don’t like their reaction to the scene. The dystopian cyberpunk I like cause at least they didn’t give up 🤷

  • Ion what you tryna say, it was honestly a whole lot of nothing. Wtf does “trying to unmix brown pigments” mean? That’s cryptic asf and doesn’t make any sense, wouldn’t it be impossible to unmix any pigment color combo? And wtf does that sort of metaphor even mean?

Look man, what I was saying in response to your comment was that I don’t think it’s acceptable to call the planet an unfixable mess. Maybe it’s easier to start fresh for some people, but that was literally the problem I was trying to point out to you.

I just hate how Interstellar tells the audience that in a climate apocalypse, the only solution is to leave the planet. It’s ecofascism

  • Who is the mess? Going off world, to me, is the perfect opportunity for billionaire and bureaucratic assholes to try and create an ethno state. Who decides who gets to leave the planet? This planet isn’t a mess, that’s what eco-fascists want you to believe

  • I thought the bigger issue was the premise. If earth is in a climate apocalypse, and we have extremely advanced technology that lets us bring life to far out planets, then why are we leaving earth? Can’t those same technologies be applied to saving the earth people?

The whole “we have to go space” feels like manifest destiny and the desperate urge of capitalism to expand.

  • If anything they’re getting more tourism after the camps. Obviously now they’ve evolved beyond just housing Salvadorans, but their initial installation made the country a lot safer (at the cost of authoritarianism and unfair policing. Not trying to justify them, but the country is “technically” safer)

  • Yeah it makes you drive a lot slower which is inherently safer than drunk driving (even though you’re still under the influence). In my experience, I tend to have way too much fun drunk driving. High driving I’m either a little paranoid or chilled out so I’m driving safe. Drunk driving I get excited and do stupid shit.

Lowk I think the issue is when you’re an alcoholic cause you get complacent. An infrequent drunk driver is still a little on edge and doesn’t want to fuck up. An alcoholic drunk driver thinks it’s normal to drunk drive

  • I know bro that’s why I’m asking the question. Like if I’m running a scam where someone is supposed to fall for a pretty girl, I’m gonna use a picture of a pretty girl. The fediverse chick is not it
