  • Rule one of STO - if you value your sanity, turn off zone chat.

  • It's almost certainly going to be litigated at some point, so a court is going to define "essential"... eventually.

  • I'm not cheering. But I do think that, if it ends with the removal of Hamas, it is a necessary evil. Remember that Hamas started this escalation and that Hamas could end it at any time by releasing the hostages and surrendering.

  • Technically yes. But if the games are no longer even being sold I'd argue that it's perfectly fine to do it anyway.

  • Steam itself is a proprietary, DRM-ridden quasi-monopoly. Supporting Valve over Microsoft doesn't make much sense. They're both bad.

  • I usually don't, I'd like to but I generally don't have the time for it. But many people do play on launch day, as you can see looking at the player charts on Steam. You can't say "gaming on Linux works, you don't need Windows" and then have all these little caveats. For the vast majority of people something either works when they click "Play" or it doesn't work at all. This is an enthusiast community, but most people just aren't that.

And I'll admit that I didn't recheck Starfield before commenting. Nice to see, it was a no-go on Nvidia initially.

  • No, especially AAA releases usually do not, or least not right away. For example according to ProtonDB Starfield (and yes I know, most people here don't like it - but I do) still doesn't work reliably, especially not on Nvidia cards. And no amount of indie puzzle games makes up for AAA titles working hassle free and on day one for the vast majority of users.

  • To Firefox, sure. But if you're on Windows and your preferred alternative is Chrome you really might as well stay with Edge and benefit from the integration into Microsoft's ecosystem. Either way your data is being harvested.

  • Assuming you "own" a digital copy Playstation and Xbox will be just as secure. Well, aside from issues with forward compatibility a few generations down the line which is always less of an issue on PC.

The issue with discs is that they're expensive (shops need to keep them stocked, they need to be distributed to the shops, etc.), slow and fairly low capacity so most modern games would require multiple discs. The last one would, in addition to being annoying, severely limit game design if the game needs to be playable without copying all files over to the console's SSD for some reason.

With all that said - I can understand why people would want to be able to install from discs. Yes, discs are slow but some people's internet is even slower, especially in rural areas.

  • Sure. But they're not protesting for a two-state solution, they're cheering on Hamas.

  • Well, yeah, advocacy for genocide isn't exactly something a functional democracy should tolerate.

  • No idea then. I use adblock on all of my devices, but sometimes things slip through. And I sometimes click on one of those SEO fake "articles" that are really just ads when I'm searching for something.

  • Until they radicalise each other enough to do something really, really stupid. They're pretty openly pro-violence already.

  • So you think Israel should just accept that a genocidal terrorist organisation attacks its civilian population? Yes, Hamas uses civilians as meat shields but what are the Israelis supposed to do? Let themselves be slaughtered?

Jesus fucking Christ. Terrorist supporters all around here. I'm genuinely disgusted.

  • And that's what I like about it. Instead of sitting you down at telling you a story they give you a world to tell your own stories in. I like having the freedom to be creative, and I like seeing and exploring the creative ideas of other people. It's not something I've seen other companies really do.

  • One of the Samsung default ones. It's apparently called "Space Bell". My phone is basically always on vibrate though, so it really doesn't matter much.
