Maybe some. But some of us got in on 401k and ira and stuff. I know some didn't though. I worry about millennials and especially gen z, though. Us progressives and those even further left gotta start running for office and fix this shit.
From the comfort and authority of my armchair, as a (fake) psychologist, I declare that you can't be a psychopath if you feel guilty about a spider (and other beings, especially humans).
I think of gaslighting as manipulation of a victim by an abusive person by causing the victim to doubt their own feelings and perceptions, thereby gaining control over them. They do this by convincing the victim that what they are feeling and observing is false and the fault of the victim rather than the abuser.
This has a better explanation and some clear examples:
Interesting about Star Trek as a way to deal with anxiety about bad outcomes :). My Trek love helps me too but more with giving me a nearly imperceptible glimmer of hope for humanity.
(I wasn't sure if I was a true Trekkie but now that I've been catching up on all the post-Voyager shows I guess I must be because I love all of it... I mean I even found things to like about ST V, so... Lol). Anyway ...
But yeah you may be onto something about people either losing the ability---or maybe the will---to dream of something better. Once you get discouraged enough, it is hard to bother dreaming.
If you spend enough time online steeped in endless doomerism, with no talk of action or organization or anything, learned helplessness inevitably sets in. Sort of by definition, you stop dreaming. Which is why my recent Trek binges have been so helpful.
I should add that meds and introspection have helped a lot with the anxiety and imagining the worst outcomes. Now I do it without getting twisted up in knots and it serves me vs the other way around. But I could still stand to imagine good outcomes more often.
Anyway I appreciate the dialog! You're a good egg. :) Hope to run into you again in the Lemmyverse before long.
The other thing their evolution has done is make it so we can't stop it growing lol. Never ever plant that stuff in anything but a container. Maybe not even that. It spreads by wind and magic.
It's not that they don't oppose capitalism so much that they'll ignore any sense of ideological consistency on their quixotic quest to make sure that everyone knows America is Bad.
Spot on. Whatever that's called, that sounds like much/most of the hexbear and ml instances.
... America has proven time and time again that it will break any moral barrier to attack anyone even suspected of being a socialist,
Sadly, you're right. More to the point there are many examples of the US knocking down anything or anyone even suspected of threatening capitalists. Whether that's unions within the US, governments leaning too socialist (yet being democracies), or whatever else. I know you know this; I just felt like venting.
it's just so evidentally self defeating you have to wonder if there are any true believers at all or if they're all sockpuppets run from a Russian speaking basement somewhere.
When they all come out with new talking points about the same time, all bearing remarkable similarity, and coinciding with notable (geo)political events, and brigading certain posts, it sure makes you go, "hmm."
Man that list of rules makes me want to switch home bases. Sounds like my kinda peeps.
