  • Yeah, I should've thought to buy when the iMac came out. It was pretty clear they were on a good trajectory. I had money then too. Easy to say in hindsight though. Hell I should've bought some nVidia a year ago lol.

  • There was no Google when I was 18. Jesus if I had somehow been able to buy Microsoft and Apple ... But at the time Apple wasn't looking too good.

  • I would bet cash money these are symptoms of systemic problems at the airline.

  • How in ...? Holy shit. I am so in awe of those writers. Now I gotta go back and rewatch all of TNG. Some day I will get all the references... Could take decades.

  • Doing better, you?

Been getting back on the exercise train. Working on some landscaping in the yard. Made ok progress. As I get in better shape that will improve of course.

Extra energy and motivation today so I am getting back on top of some household chores. It's been a struggle for a while. I hope I can stay on top of things longer this time.

  • the only emotion Russians are capable of is self pity..

    That's fucked up and wrong.

All the Russians I met in Moscow when I visited were kind, decent people. It's the leaders that are shitbags.

  • The most important result is that plants are the overwhelming winner in the “who weighs the most” contest, coming in at 450 gigatons. Microbes (which include bacteria, archaea, and most protists) come in next at around 81 gigatons. Animals (which includes insects, by the way), barely matter, weighing in at a mere 2 gigatons. It’s also worth noting that these plants are mostly on land. That means that the continents beat the oceans in terms of biospheric mass.

  • Naw all good. To be fair, how many of us in the US know Ecuador uses American dollars?? I had no idea so I'm glad you posted. This is a cool tidbit of info!

  • That sounds serious

  • Either that or they like shilling for papa Putin or something. Who knows.

  • Idiot... and total asshole, also. Someone posted the Wikipedia link and I read up. Yuck.

  • Good to know. Well I have 16G now that should give me plenty to spare.

  • You didn't fail, these things were done to you and it isn't your fault.

That is a common reaction of survivors. But it isn't your fault at all.

That might be something to work on with the therapist.

Getting it all out in text will, I think, turn out to be a very good step forward towards more healing. That is my wish for you.

I think the trauma is playing a big role in not feeling successful (or more to the point, of value / worthy / etc).

    Wishing you the best.

  • Was one of a big team of people doing a major redo of a host of legacy apps, converting to agile processes (this was like 20 yrs ago), greenfield stuff, major investment, cutting edge stuff with some great people, and imaginations allowed to roam. Had been given the role of infosec architect alongside a few other newly minted architects. Hell I even got my own office. Spent several months at it, loved every minute. IT had fairly mature processes, good reliability, and the new stuff was going to improve on that substantially.

Then we got bought out. Their CIO told us in the first meet and greet that IT processes were foolishness. It came as no surprise when we learned all of their IT staff were in constant firefighting mode. I doubt their uptime was even as good as "2 nines".

I started job hunting that week and found a job soon after. Some say I'm still working there to this day ... (mostly because I am).

  • I will have to try that once my ram upgrade gets here.
