But if I recall correctly, the reason why needles rather than scanning is precision, speed and 2 two-way communication. Needles is a more risky and invasive procedure, but it does allow near instant communication, at the precise neurons you want to target, and it allows to override the signal.
In some cases of paralysis, the signal to move a muscle might be there, but it's just to weak to get anything done. By amplifying it, you fix that problem at the source.
True, but the clients are still in their infancy. Liftoff has no support for it as far as I know. Meanwhile, I have the luck of running my own instance, so if the filter fixes it, that would be great.
When I still used Twitter, I was very glad to be able to filter out Trump, otherwise I'd see half a dozen tweets about him per day. We're kinda heading there with removed on Lemmy now, and I really don't even want to spend the mental energy it takes to ignore it.
Edit: meh. Using the slur filter just replaces "removed" with "removed". Time to investigate some other clients I guess.
As long as the content itself is legal, why shouldn't they?
Where do you draw the line? Rapist, Alleged rapist, Murderer, someone who committed assault, fraud? They'd have to demonitize a good chunk of the entertainment industry.
Be warned. Setting up the vm is the easy part. Then you'll have to deal with moderation, users, spammers, etc. It's a much bigger commitment than just running a single community.
Because I run my own lemmy instance, I can ban users from it. Effectively it's exactly the same as blocking them (their posts won't ever reach me), but it does feel slightly better.
My bad. I assumed you were trolling. If you honestly didn't know what executioner referred to in that context, I sincerely apologise.
