Some streaming services like Deezer (free version available) and Apple Music (only paid plans) offer an easy way to add your own tracks your library. I listen to a few songs that aren’t available on Apple Music and all I have to do is drag them into the desktop app and it syncs to all my devices, full with custom cover art and metadata. And iirc, Deezer has a page for uploading mp3s that they then add to your library.
Spotify also has a way to add custom songs, however iirc, it was only possible through individually syncing each and every device you want those songs on with the desktop app.
I have one (a friend gave it to when she needed something faster) and the screen works fine. However, the battery is pretty much cooked and due the glued screen it’s a nope for replacing it…
Reddit on my phone was great. Until they blocked third party apps. Apollo was cleaner, faster and better than even old.reddit. And nu reddit on the web is slow and bloated just like their first party app.
Besides, why should I pull out my laptop or sit down on my PC to access Reddit or Lemmy for that matter?
If Linux supported all that proprietary software that I need (or am used to using), I’d have switched already…
And in my gaming machine, I’ll be switching, if Linux finally supports HDR
Yes and no. USB-C is "the faster connector" compared to USB-A 3 because it supports faster protocols like USB 4 and even Thunderbolt 5. USB-A does not. It tops out at USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (gawd what an awful naming scheme) with 20Gbps and even that’s rare. The newer, faster protocols with 40Gbps (USB4) or even 120Gbps (TB5) need the USB-C connector.
Yes, but with arch you have to because you have to set it up yourself.
In all seriousness, arch is a great base but unless you have the patience and knowledge to set it up yourself, staying with arch based distros (like Manjaro) is much easier. And if you’re new to Linux in general but actually wanna try it, start with something like Mint. It’s fast, stable, easy to work with and this a good entry point
The premise in the beginning is great (and I for one don’t even hate the Klingons) but it devolves into revolving far too much around Michael Burnham, a deeply unpleasant and annoying character.
So of course she Spocks secret sister and of course her mum is the key to saving the galaxy and of course her mirror universe equivalent is the Empress’s prodigy. She’s an annoying writer self insert character and annoys me every time she says a single word.
If Michael Burnham was a better character or at least had less screen time, I’d like Discovery much more.
However, most crew members besides Burnham, at least those that actually get time to shine, are pretty great and the best thing Discovery did was introducing Anson Mount as Christopher Pike and setting up Strange New Worlds, which is a 10/10 so far.
Also, DIS is far too dark. You don’t notice it that much while watching the show but after watching SNW… I recently went back to watch a few Pike clips from DIS, to see how he compares to SNW and damn, DIS is gloomy and I definitely prefer my trek bright and optimistic…
They’re pesky? It’s the only messenger that has them but has them tucked away completely unintrusively. I‘m not a fan of stories but in Telegram I‘ve barely noticed them…
I mean, sure. But if you can’t treat the illness just yet, you usually treat the symptoms at least…
Making it harder to get guns and especially guns like assault rifles (in the sense of requiring a gun license and perhaps a background check and psychological report) seems like an easy step to do.
It won’t fix the underlying problems but it might just stop you from bleeding out in the meantime.
And also, this year alone, there were more than 50 school shootings in the US so far. That’s kids having easy (enough) access to guns. Do you really think, those 50 kids would build pipe bombs, turn to knife crime or heck, hijack planes?
Those kids (and a lot of other people) usually aren’t terrorists. They don’t make grand plans months ahead. They feel bad, they see gun, they shoot. They "just" wanna inflict the pain they’re feeling onto others. They wouldn’t act if the opportunity wasn’t laying in their parents bedroom drawers or in the shelves of the next walmart.
It would be a problem if it happened with any kind of regularity. It doesn’t. That doesn’t mean it’s not a tragic incident and a brutal act of terrorism but it only happened once, at least in France. And in other incidents, like in the US, Germany or the UK, the death toll was much lower (8-13 people), which is very much comparable to US Mass shootings.
So, sure, no individual mass shooting gets close to the same death toll but you don’t just have one mass shooting every few years in the US, don’t you?
I have a small vinyl collection to increase that support above what streaming services do :D
