I don't think it speaks for the US being run by dynasties, but rather that the top of the political landscape is not extremely dynamic. I think name recognition is a huge deal in the US, which would also help explain Reagan and Trump.
I don't know who anyone mentioned here is except the former president, and I have no intention of watching the videos and giving them further attention.
But none of this shit is real. Whatever he begs Musk for in the video is for show. The so-called gifting is for show. Trump is not going to drive around in a Musk machine.
These videos are Tesla ads, and they are Trump campaign ads. The guy making the ads apparently reaches an audience, so of course they will make sure he has access to Cybertrucks or whatever.
And considering what a piece of shit Musk is, I really don't understand what is surprising here.
It might also be that they don't federate well - Bridgy was not built with Lemmy in mind, and Lemmy was not designed to be a very flexible application of ActivityPub.
It could also be that Lemmy can't search for users that are not already observed on the server, making Bridgy invisible as the account itself never posts any content anywhere.
A brief rough history, in case anyone is interested:
17th century: Kings and shit. The people supporting the rule of the king are in power. They become conservatives.
18th century: Liberals appear. They believe men have certain inherent rights from nature. They don't dig kings, but they do believe in private property. They sit to the left in parliaments, the conservatives sit to the right.
19th century: Marx gives us his take on history and labour. Liberalism is given a competing framework from the left.
20th century: All kinds of shit goes down, partly because the conservatives and the liberals are terrified of the Marxists and give the fascists the keys to the kingdom, partly because of a Marx-inspired Leninists take control in Russia. The "new" left (socialism) becomes a major force in the postwar era, promising to build a new world on the ashes of the old.
21st century: There seems to be a head on collision. People feel strongly about these concepts, but it seems many have forgotten where they come from or what they mean. Disinformation campaigns have gotten efficient. Green politics enter the field.
As Bluesky is federated through it's own protocol (AT), ActivityPub content can be bridged to the AT protocol and appear on BlueSky. This is currently possible through Bridgy.fed.
If you want your stuff to be bridged to BlueSky, just follow @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy. It probably doesn't work very well with the threadiverse though.
It doesn't work, as what is being shared here is not the post itself but a link to it. You cannot "re-post" other people's content into threads in the Threadiverse - they'd have to submit it themselves by tagging the community.
That said, people can check out @mho@social.heise.de and see if the post federated.
Terrorism = Acts of violence with the purpose of instilling fear. Or something along those lines.
Doesn't matter if you agree with them. I sympathise fully with the root purpose of the PKK and the ETA, and possibly also the IRA. I find that their means sometimes undermine their cause, and it makes me somewhat uncomfortable to be aligned with them politically.
It's possible for people to do terrible things in the name of a good cause.
And "terrorist group" doesn't mean "the baddies" - that's just how it's used in America. Tarantino's jewish gang in Inglorious Basterds would be a text book terrorist organization, but terrorising Nazis is generally considered an okay thing to do.
Yeah, having an option to suggest corrections to captions would probably be much more popular than actually writing them from scratch. I doubt it will be high on the list of priorities, but it would be a neat feature for sure.
Also worth mentioning that the community will be hosted at the same instance as the one you're currently on. So if you're half Greek and want to create a community about Greek culture, doing so from Lemmy.ca might be a bit weird. One of my favourite Lemmy.ca communities, !woodworking@lemmy.ca, seems however like a nice fit.
It's not necessarily a huge deal. It's worth checking that the instance appears to be run by reasonable people who appear dedicated to continue to support it - if the instance disappears, so does your community. And if you disagree with the rules of the instance, that's not good either. But for the most part, people don't pay all that much attention to which instance the community they subscribe to is hosted at.
Even if you don't manage to flip a seat, your neighbours who feel the same hopelessness as you will look at the results at some point. Your vote will make them know they are not alone. It matters.
Any change in the right direction is significant, and worth fighting for - voting for it is a no-brainer. The margins might make the difference between people voting or giving up staying at home at the next election.
They won't you to believe you shouldn't even bother. Don't fall for it.
Georgia flipped the Senate seat in '22, for the first time since the 90s. It's possible.
I guess they would want some cybersecurity software like Crowdstrike in either case? If so, this could probably have happened on any system, as it's a bug in third party software that crashes the computer.
Not that I know much about this, but if this leads to a push towards Linux it would be if companies already wanted to make the switch, but were unwilling because they thought they needed Crowdstrike specifically. This might lead them to consider alternative cybersecurity software.
This is where people mess up when they judge the past in the eyes of the present. Communism in Marx' time had nothing to do with the Soviet Union, Mao or China.
I got my hands on a Dell USB C docking station for free, it's all good except that the power supply is missing.
Looking for a replacement I found the same docking station for sale cheaper than what I would have to pay for the cable.
Man, fuck Dell.
