  • To underline this statement: Microsoft Bing is trying to spoof Google UI when people search Google.com.
Most tech literates do not understand the workflows of ppl who have no clue. Having done a shitton of 1st Level Tech Support for an ISP in my youth has given me the mostly useless ability to know how the clueless use their computer.

I wish i could forget most of that bullshit tho, it brought me far too young to the conclusion that humanity is a long way from becoming immune to snake oil vendors, scam artists and con men because most people don't have a fucking clue what they are doing.

  • if the small text isn't an UI thing where you have to be able to read it while doing something else in-game (like reading lore or item stats), the steam deck has a button chord for a magnifying feature (Hold Steam button + L1 for default, but can be mapped as a toggle to one of the back buttons or wherever you like) which is enough for a lot of titles.

  • Simulacra together with my wife :-)

  • Nicotine itself is not cancerogen! The stuff that gives you the big C are the combustion byproducts, and vaping does not combust anything. The main ingredients of the used liquid are vegetable glycerin, which is harmless, and propylengycole, which is also quite harmless. The only thing where there isn't enough information yet are the used aromas, which are the same as the stuff that gets added to our food; there is not much data regarding inhalation of those.

Sure, it would be far better if they didn't vape (especially if they didn't smoke before - i am using it instead of tobacco as harm reduction), but at least you can relax regarding the size of the health impact.

  • i use it with deemix-gui to download my music. works like a charm (using your ARL as login method still works)

  • you are just funneling BILLIONS into your Military Industrial Complex, which is good for the shareholder value of the usual suspects, while dropping off your used stuff all over Europe. The US are mainly helping themselves. It just happens to also help Ukraine.

  • i already use heroic, but my issue is that there is nothing where i can add ALL games regardless of source; in playnite i was able to add everything from amiga 500 games over ps2 games to current pc games, with great costumisation, integration of steamgriddb, addition of pcgameswiki links, the ability to start scripts and programs at the launch and the end of the game, is well controllable by gamepad (heroics gamepad support works, but where your selection jumps if you press up or down is a bit of a mystery; and pressing b to return to your library after looking at a game places you cursor somewhere not clearly defined, not to the last selection.) and offers a huge selection of plugins.

  • I want to add here my deeply missed Playnite. There is nothing under Linux that comes close. I've settled for the combination of steam, heroic and lutris, but that is not even close for sure.

  • I just want to add regarding the "common people, everyday life" stuff: the common people in the rest of the world just use metric in everyday life (with the precision that is useful for the context, body height is normally communicated in 10cm steps - 160, 170, 180 and so on), and it has the additional benefit that the rest of the world still knows what the fuck we are talking about.

  • The last information i found is from 2015 (the one that looks like MacOS). There are no direct backdoors on the installation medium, although it is trivial to deliver one with software updates since the repositories are under state control. What has been found is a mechanism that attached the hardware id of the pc to any file that is opened, allowing to trace through which hands a file has gone. there was also an "anti-virus" that is a censoring mechanism, deleting files with predefined content.

  • i can only afford mentos

  • I for my part would rather like to use the microwave for Hi-Power WiFi (and you can hold a bag of popcorn into the datastream for nutrition too!)

  • yes, but ublock gets its blocklists from an external address, which cannot be done with manifest v3. and updating the extension is something that can take weeks until approved, while google could just outmaneuver ublock.

  • for the longest time, i did know that game theory did not have anything to do with “games” and that it is somehow connected to the prisoners dilemma, but the concept as such wasn’t very clear to me. If you are like my former me, take 30 minutes out of your day and visit https://ncase.me/trust/ to learn and play around with game theory; it’s a great webpage and it’s pretty good fun all around.

  • The rental car agencys in Austria and Germany had a huge amount of those. They didn't sell well because of the optics, but if you needed a replacement car because yours broke down, they were awesome and always in stock.
