  • why? why not let people just retreat into fantasy? it's probably healthier than many common coping mechanisms. i mean, it's a chatbot, how much can you do with it?

let people have their temporary salve to get them thru whatever they were going thru such that they were resorting to this. and if it's not temporary, ok, fine? better to have some outlet than be even more mentally isolated. maybe in 50 years this will be common, who knows.

  • i don't know why people are so eager to make kids' lives worse? no one likes being restricted from things, whatever nebulous social issue this is meant to fix could be better served by not having the schools start at fucking 730am.

you can work at mcdonalds at 12 now but you can't browse memes after your shift? what the fuck is this?

  • we really need to stop centering the WFH discussion around 'productivity'; MBA sickos will always come up with a way to continue dragging out and romanticizing the 9-5 grind.

the goal of remote work is not increased productivity, it is a dramatically improved quality of life for workers who enjoy it. it's about not having to commute, not having to wake up early to get ready, not having to spend the bulk of your time and most alert hours in a shitty building that no one wants to be in. why would i not want to be with my cats and listening to my records while working?

at the end of the day, i don't care about 'deeper work', i care about not feeling deep, unrelenting dread every evening when i know i have to wake up and be at work the next morning.

  • what does "healthy" even mean in this context exactly? like if i eat 3 apples tomorrow will i tangibly actually feel different? what about every day for a week? month? what exactly are people getting out of this other than the placebo effect from the word 'healthy'

  • I've switched to collecting discs, it feels more viscerally satisfying, like vinyl, plus not having to deal with shitty rips, or ISP tracking (i forgot to turn my VPN on once and they literally suspended my service and made me call and grovel to the guy on the phone), or worrying about drives failing (my biggest fear which seems somewhat inevitable for everyone). having a case and art in your hands feels nicer than clicking on a file. plus used blu rays are very cheap.

  • geolocking has zero reason to exist in an interconnected world. it is quite figuratively a crime against humanity, denying access to unfathomable amounts of art and culture because they live across a line on a map

  • what a surprise

this is in no small part because, i think, he's the only guy in the entire race who's actually an entertaining speaker. he's literally an entertainer, he just does riffs for an hour rather than droning on like every other politician ever. i know he's also evil, but it's a brilliant strategy. no one cares if you got the minutae of the 1994 pipeline marginalization act correct, people want to have a good time! simple as that

  • genuine question: why does this have to take so long? we all know it's going to be months as the gears grind towards the inevitable conclusion. why can't they just do the politics, run a hurry up offense, get it done

  • there really needs to be some legislative support for WFH, or to at least prevent companies from retracting it so wantonly. it's good for the environment, it's incredible for quality of life (for those who chose it)... brenden pls

it's really insane how many people have this stockholm syndrome for the office, for putting on a shirt and fulfilling the social ideal of being an Adult with a Place To Be from 9-5. it's arbitrary, it's unnecessary, it's archaic

  • taco bell in particular is embracing the kiosks and it's wonderful. they have signs in the lobby saying 'order at the kiosk' even. and why wouldn't you? why do people in the US have this pig-like stubbornness where they must have a human stand there and 'PeRsONaLIze tHE iNtERacTion' or some shit

  • sorry this is gross:

i do not understand american's aversion to the bidet. why would i want to wipe my ass with dry fucking paper rather than water? why why why. like it's somehow 'gross' to use water. but scraping at wet shit with fucking tissue paper is hygienic and normal?
