  • definitely. it's a uniquely bad and insidious platform, but at the same time there's still good and important content on there you'd never see anywhere else. people are too quick to dismiss it because they haven't tried to tailor the algorithm to what they want properly and assume it's all shitty dance videos

  • streaming just has godawful UX now as well. the apps play you commercials while in the menu, you have to worry about buffering, you aren't allowed to take screenshots (which is the most numbskulled DRM i've ever seen; they allowed it in the old days and everything was fine AND either way people have ALREADY managed to rip and share the raw footage. what's the point??), 75% of the fucking content on amazon you have to pay an extra fee for, media appears and disappears at the whim of pigheaded suits, prices go up every 6 months because fuck you, the blindingly stupid netflix 'single family home' restriction....

watching tv is meant to be fun, not introduce a whole other layer of bureaucratic bullshit into our lives

  • i love the insane fervor over her endorsing biden, the most milquetoast (at best!) thing anyone could possibly do, when he's already been canonised by the DNC because he's 90 and stubborn and thinks he deserves another term because that's what the good guys get

it just makes my stomach turn, both in 2020 and now, when people act like this doddering establishment old man is some sort of exciting force to rally around. he's joe biden.

  • damn right

every time i've intentionally picked the ASNDSZYY brand i've been disappointed in the thing and in myself. now i'd rather just spend up front for something actually good rather than waste time and effort going back and forth returning things

  • same. i feel gross using it but it's literally figuratively magic being able to lie in bed, realize i need a specific cable for something, order it on my phone, and have it the next morning

sometimes i'll try to go to an actual store instead, but then often they won't have the specific thing, or it'll be out of stock, or they'll only have expensive ones, and either way i have to drive there and back and talk to the guy which is a pain

  • RTO itself is poor management. it's 2024, what the fuck are you doing. office work isn't some peak utopian concept, it's only really been a thing for around a century, and it's grown increasingly miserable as productivity skyrockets while wages don't. any honest person hates it, and it is objectively archaic now that we have the internet

yeah, zoom meetings do suck, talking is more awkward, collaboration is harder, vibes are harder to maintain. but in no universe should that take precedent over the massive quality of life improvements WFH offers for the worker. internal work dynamics mean fuck all versus not having to leave your home/family/pets for 8+ hours every day

  • surely it costs more to fight this dogshit legal battle, both in money and PR, than to simply let enthusiasts watch your films. they're already handsomely profiting, why do these fucking pigheaded hogs think it is their right, it is their duty to wring out every cent they can? fuck off.

  • i've been trying this year to actively stop myself and get up and do a chore or play guitar or something if i've been rotting in bed scrolling thru tiktok for more than 10 minutes. i always feel way way better upon stopping and actually doing something --

but every single time it's so hard to work up the effort. or....courage, even? is somehow the word that comes to mind -- the algos lock you in and make you feel like the real world is too much effort, simply scroll up or down to see more videos, you're safe here. it's very very strange when you try to actively analyze what's happening

  • it must be nice having a party that just always manages to force through all the shit you want no matter the odds

it's so awesome that we still haven't fixed roe. like, ridiculous that that night the president didn't write something saying 'actually it's legal everywhere executive order fuck you'. i don't care if that's not how it works!! he's the president!! that's how 40% of people think it works anyway!!
