The anthropological phenonmenon is called "the third sex"(you may argue this is a misnoumer, but the argument stands), not trans. Trans, in general, is contained in this larger category, not the inverse. It's just a fair to call papise Joan trans as it is to baptise her into the mormon faith.
Eununchs have been much more of a constant in human societies than the third sex and have one particular point in common with trans that has never been associated with 'the third sex', castration.
