  • someone nitpicks word you used in a variable declaration

    you change it

someone more senior says the former made more sense

this goes on for far longer than it should

eventually you get a real review from someone in your team that identified something actually needs to change

you change it and re request reviews

    rinse and repeat

  • my phone at 80% vol is fairly quiet with my earbuds.

I've also noticed that this warning's timing is quite random.

I always listen to music on my commutes and they've been the same commute for 2 years and Ive only seen this warning like four or five times completely out of the blue.

  • it's the age of grifting and unfortunately she's kind of winning, Dems spend so much time calling Reps idiots but reps are making a killing with their grifts, breaking the law and getting away with it

  • if it's the random dude on Twitter and this is a classic Twitter article then it's likely a big nothing burger.

some dude on Twitter has been spouting that he's a big security expert but last I looked at the tweets I was not convinced of anything

lots of words and no evidence

  • it's more of a "know your audience" thing for me

I can make all sorts of stupidly sarcastic jokes with my friends but when it comes to the internet there's probably thousands of idiots who read content and take it as face value and as genuine

  • this is what I said about the Linux memes about Linux being hard to use, people were upset I said that because of the "can't take a joke" angle

but I seriously believe that those memes do more harm than good

  • that's exactly why I'm saying this. I know from experience helping other devs with git issues it's always because they're using a GUI alternative to the CLI and they're clicking on things they don't understand

  • let's turn this into a constructive angle for future devs and current juniors: just learn git cli, I promise you it is much simpler than it seems.

all those memes about git having like a thousand commands are true, but you really will only use like 7 at most per month.

learn push, pull, merge, squash, stash, reset, im probably missing like one or two

I promise you again: it is much simpler than it seems. and you won't have to use these stupid git GUI things, and it will save you a hassle because you will know what commands you are running and what they do

short disclaimer: using git GUI is totally fine but low-key you are missing out on so much

  • you unironically just have to cope with it in whatever way makes sense to you

I personally think of my career as: "some things I do are interesting and keep me from blowing my brains out, the rest I don't care about"

when it comes to the company I work for: I treat everyone I meet well, no corporate bs, no yes sir yes ma'am. I do whatever I'm assigned and meet deadlines

but I never go above and beyond (because of burnout)

everything you've thought about hard work = reward or better pay is a scam

put everything into work-life balance and when you go home focus on things you really want to do, such as hobbies or hang outs

don't do unpaid overtime, don't bend over for anyone, don't offer yourself up when shit goes down

you want to be as invisible as possible while not burning out AND not working your ass off (everyone has different standards for what this means)

tldr: just find some way to cope because there isn't really anything else you can do

  • short answer: yes

long answer: opinions are kind of a privilege. if you're someone working 9 to 5 you probably couldn't give a shit about anything other than relaxing and winding down from the stress of a work week. if you're someone who manages to still be involved, congrats. pushing this unto other people imo is not fair. ideally people would work less and have more free time to get situated with how their surroundings are being legislated
