Well, as long as it's nothing like that episode, it should be fine.
I remember an episode of CSI years ago where they were investigating the murder of someone who was rebooting a very Star Trek show into something super dark and gritty, with none of the hope and positivity the original show had. That seems to be the trend of a lot of Star Trek properties the last few years, and it makes me think the writer of that episode was quite prescient.
If you treat everyone you engage with as though they're not engaging in good faith... you're not engaging in good faith.
You're not going to convince people who engage in bad faith anyways, so what's the harm in doing what you can to empathize with those who are willing to listen? Are you afraid you're going to be convinced of the wrong thing?
They're not population related, they're logistics related. We have technology and resources in abundance to deal with almost all these existential threats... they're just not profitable enough for the people with power to implement.
That falls under the preconception that working is only working if it's the benefit of capitalism. You can work for a better future. You can work to better yourself. You can work to spread peace and joy to the world around you. The problem is that work is tied to capitalism in social consciousness.
antiwork is filled with people who love to bitch but hate doing anything about it. Staying on reddit because of inertia is exactly the kind of thing that represents them.
You have to have time to nurture them, as well. I imagine a lot of parents simply don't have the time/energy because of needing to work so much to take care of their families.
My main problem is I can't just ignore individual sounds. I either take everything in or ignore everything, and the latter is even difficult for me. I need time to sort through the information when people speak.
It's a similar reason retail stores try and push their loyalty programs, it's a more guaranteed source of income than a one time payment.
