  • Same boat. I decided shit does not have to be perfect but by doing so and getting down to the work, I think I am getting far more done and on average I am now coming out with end results that are often better then when I was striving for perfection.

  • Basically someone accused her of being an escort, doing meth and having two abortions. Now I could discount this at face value normally but she then proceeded to slander the person who made these accusations resulting herself being sued by said person. And she has a very good chance of losing this lawsuit.

The interesting part is that while she claims what was stated by said fellow were lies, she is not counter suing. That seems quite strange unless she is concerned what will come out in discovery.

  • That is democracy. You vote them in. Of course leadership positions will always be above the mean age. Same as senior positions in companies will also be older than the new hires. It takes years to become proficient in your trade and new people to politics usually start at the local level first before entering upper offices.

  • This is the problem. The moderate Republicans that didn't support Trump are looking at retirement. They are marginalized in their party. The replacements likely will be further right.

The country did far better when you have moderate and capable leadership on both sides.

  • China had a dam collapse in 1975 that resulted in an additional 67 other dams to fail. The Chinese government recently acknowledged the death toll at half a million people but knowing the government their and the poor statistics of the people living alone that watershed area, I suspect the number is well north of a million people.

Honestly I would far rather live next to a nuclear plant then downstream of a damn. In every nuclear accident, you could safely walk, not run, but walk away from danger. Chernobyl included. When a damn fails, there can be little warning and the destruction is complete.

  • Bullshit. The USSR was a house of cards by then end. If it was doing at all well, it would still exist. It same as you stopping all maintenance on your house, car, not buying any cloth for years. Ya you can live well for some time but eventually your car breaks, your house starts to leak and you look like shit.

The USSR may have been able to survive a few more years but the longer they tried that model, the worse off each person would have been and the more unstable they would have become.

  • No they fucking wouldn't. The USSR was completely failing and was being propped up by using up every resource and relying on old technologies to not break down. The house was slowly deteriorating and the sooner they left that model the sooner they could get on track to a sustainable system.

Unfortunately there was so little left after years of communism that it was pretty hard to kick start a functional economy. Communism just ingrained corruption so deep it is hard to invest there. Then you got a dictator type of government that again is centralizing much of their output and this is what you get. Shit economy with incredible stability.

Pretty much same in any country that has any model like that.

  • While practically impossible to get a certain jury pool that would be exactly in the middle, both extremes can be wrong. If you're laughing because of the absurdity of them not getting their way to stock it with Republicans, then I apologized for the misunderstanding.

If people are smug for it being stacked with Democrats, then they are not much better than those that trying to move it to a friendly venue.

  • Regionally there will always be variances. Take Chicago and the loss of the auto industry. It took 25 (???) years for that to clean out. There was nothing to replace it rapidly so either people needed to move or they waited it out till new business evolved. Areas like that will skew the average higher. Maybe you could get an extra percentage nationally but I would say it is pretty close to zero at the moment.

  • I was talking more about some of the other things he has said in past as stated in the full article. The ground zero statement in the title alone is a non story. I agree It was 22 years ago and he was there shortly after. Certainly nothing worth making any point of and a few days after is more or less immediately after the incident.

  • Apparently one of the instances is extremely pro communism.

Even though communism has been proven historically to be detrimental by nearly every metric. Detrimental economically, detrimental environmentally, detrimental socially, and very much against basic human rights.
