Hi there! Hope you're enjoying our community. Will you please edit the title of your post so that it iincludes a question? It will help your post to get good responses and is our first rule.
If you have "Hide read posts" selected in your settings, Lemmy will assume you've read your posts and hide them from you. Check your settings for that.
https://browse.feddit.de/ This will show you every community there is on Lemmy. It won't help with the old discussions, but may help you find some new communities you didn't know about. I find it best to either just scroll through the list as is, or if using the search bar, to type maybe half the word I'm looking for and give it a few seconds to search.
Me, too. I started my online experience using Prodigy chat rooms in the mid 90's, and I've wandered all over the internet from group to group since then. I hope this place stays a little haven free from money hoarding dragons for a while.
Sometimes you have to change your post sorting option once you click through to the community to see all the posts. I have mine set to "Top Twelve Hours" as the default because I like that for my front page, but once I get into the community I often have to change it to "New" and then I'll see a lot more posts.
Click on the "Communities" link at the top of the page, and search for the word "cat" or "dog". You'll see all sorts of communities to follow. Some are newer and still getting their bearings and some are quite active already.
I use Friendly social Browser on Android. It's basically a wrapper for the mobile website and allows me to sort posts the way I want them, which is important to me. I don't want the algorithm. I've used it for years. It works with quite a few different social media sites and doesn't allow all the tracking. I have the Plus version and I'm allowed to turn off ads on both the app and Facebook and block "stories" and other silliness I don't care for. I don't know if the free version does all of that.
I created a community !neurodegdissupport@lemmy.world for Neurodegenerative Disease Support yesterday. We're just getting started but I'd love to be included in your list. I'm active on Lemmy.world and IBeehaw. I created two accounts so I can see both.
