  • Basically, DoD schools benefit from a high level of funding, strong and consistent leadership, and a focus on across-the-board improvement. Now when can we roll this same attitude and funding out to all the public schools in this country?

  • I mean, the C-130 is designed to operate in combat zones, and from short/improvised airstrips, and more easily facilitates the movement of soldiers. Those could be features the polish government thinks are advisable in the current situation. Plus, it could just be a speed thing. It's a lot easier to get a military aircraft dispatched on extremely short notice than it is to charter plane(s).

  • Well, when you remember that a) Russia doesn't give a shit about its soldiers and b) Russia doesn't have a ton in the way of functioning logistics, it makes sense that the basic necessities are not being provided.

  • The US Federal Government offers 13 paid sick days a year (that rollover indefinitely)...and between 13 and 26 vacation days (depending on service time)...and all federal holidays off paid. It's not quite on the level of Europe, but it's a damn sight better than most of the rest of the country.

  • They don't have to particularly like the government in order to engage in espionage. Like the commenter above said, they just have to have family still in China. Just within the last few months, there were two separate cases of USN sailors, both from China but naturalized citizens, who turned over classified information to the Chinese government following family pressure from the Mainland.

We should never engage in the sort of blind discrimination that resulted in internment camps. The associated risk of having family/ties in China just needs to be properly evaluated when placing people with family in/ties to China in positions of trust. The vast majority of Chinese people will never engage in espionage. And they should also never be unduly punished for the actions of the very few among them who do.

  • I mean, illegally claiming other nations territorial waters because of outdated nationalistic attitudes is pretty provocative...kinda pushes South East Asian nations to ask for US bases as a hedge against their imperialist neighbor. They're just picking the lesser of two evils.

  • I mean, the USN is currently offering enlistment bonuses between $50k and $75k for anyone going down the nuke pipeline. The lie is probably that the $35k is for one specific rate he'll never qualify for.

  • ... isn't Ukraine making these claims because Russia has been deporting trainloads of Ukrainian to Siberia and replacing them with Russian citizens? We saw this on Crimea in particular when all the residents were so desperate to leave last year.
