  • Not only does the NDAA contain COLAs for Military pay, it also contains the COLA for every civil servant on the GS Pay System, an additional 1.9m-2m people on top of the ~1.1m active duty servicemembers. So Republicans are screwing with nearly 3 million peoples pay (directly) because they throw hissy fits whenever they don't get their way.

  • Not in my opinion. One thing the tapes also show is the layout of the capitol building, and (to a certain extent) what the response to the insurrection looked like. These are two valuable pieces of information for the next time they try this.

  • Maybe information was shared, but Canada either did not believe the threat credible enough, or in some other way messed up themselves? We likely won't ever know the full story. Historically, other nations don't tend to appreciate the US conducting operations on their soil, so there isn't a ton the US can do to protect a Canadian citizen in Canada, other than pass the information along.

  • To make it even spicier, the first headlines I saw about Altman leaving seemed to indicate that MS was not involved, and in fact didn't know he was going to be fired until literal minutes before the announcement went live. How true this is, of course, is up for debate. But the rumor mill is fun, right?

  • That no one is making up a) his glowing endorsement of an antisemitic tweet and b) that advertisers have had their ads show up next to antisemitic (and otherwise racist) tweets, which is not a look many brands want to go with. We don't have to make this shit up; it's just what ol' musky does. And if it walks like an antisemite, and it quacks like an antisemite...

  • Oh it's not even close to being user-upgradeable. As in, the RAM module is part of the silicon M3 chipset. You can't upgrade it because it is literally part of the CPU die.

Of course, apple could address this by also offering expansion slots that users can install ram in, but that would mean being nice to consumers, which we all know apple is fundamentally opposed to.

  • Well, knowing the USN, the reason is either a) some extremely long, convoluted line of reasoning formulated through several Senate subcommittee hearings to avoid pissing anyone off or b) someone wrote it that way once 75 years ago, and no one knows enough about why to want to change it.

  • No, they sail her around all the time. The USS Constitution is a commissioned vessel in the United States Navy, crewed by active duty sailors. They use the term "afloat" because HMS Victory is the oldest commissioned naval vessel, but she is kept as a museum ship in drydock.

  • My entire Command (and most of the rest of the DoD) are considered "excepted", which means we're still required to show up and work. The only silver lining is that the Government Employees Fair Treatment Act was passed in 2019, which guarantees that we will get back pay (and this still doesn't help everyone living paycheck to paycheck). Before that, it was actually an open question if we'd even be paid for the work done during the shutdown.

  • FWIW, I swap between phones weekly (separate work phone w/o cameras, but same phone number), and transfer my WhatsApp account at the same time. Both the phones have their own unique message history, and it does not sync between devices. I do not have backups enabled on either phone.

  • My dad had a double lung transplant several months ago...we were told by his transplant team that, with transplants, rejection is a "when", not an "if". However, if caught early enough, the docs can do an incredible amount to combat rejection.

  • Everything they're asking for is pretty typical for the IRS (and probably a handful of other workplace-related departments). If you're really that uncomfortable giving them less information than is required to get a driver's license, then I think you know what your only choice is.

  • I just hated being railroaded into the drug trips. Like, in the northern region, there is literally no way to escape the hunters with bows who drug you. You can be in an enclosed helicopter a hundred feet off the ground, and they still hit you with an arrow.

Otherwise, great game, beautiful game, and honestly not awful co-op.
