  • It wasn't until she called the number the next day that she learned the police had called immigration agents on her. The officer who answered the phone told her that the police report noted that ICE had been contacted, and advised her not to make a report in person or risk being detained, she said.

The only good cop is a cop that snitches and tells you not to trust the other cops.

  • Multiple states are entirely within the "border". Who doesn't think of western Massachusetts as "the border"? Or noted border state Maryland and noted border city Chicago.

If we throw off the yoke of fascism, we need to scrap all this war-on-terror authoritarian-enabling bullshit. Obama should have done it, but he listened to too many fantasies about bringing the nation together and earning respect from conservatives. Abolish ICE was right all along.

  • Truly a thing that must only be wondered at. Where could one possibly find the answer?

The city has spent more than $29 million to cover LAPD overtime and costs associated with declaring a citywide tactical alert, according to the controller.

  • Ro Khanna doing his standard move of cycling back and forth between pretending to be a progressive and just being utterly spineless.

I truly hope "refused to impeach President Trump" becomes a purity test in the next primary. That's a lot of incumbents to kick to the curb, but with this vote it's well warranted.

  • Dude, you gotta chill on the Ken Martin simping a little. Trying to spin public sector and teachers union leaders as just neoliberals and David Hogg as some problem is just detached from reality. Yeah, Weingarten endorsed Clinton in 2016, but she also supported Howard Dean for chair and endorsed Elizabeth Warren in 2020. She's not some Third Way stooge. She's the leader of a seriously important union in Democratic politics. If she's the problem in the party that needs to be purged, we're fucked.

You talk about finally fighting, but since he's been chair... what exactly has he done other than mismanage it into bad news stories? Literally the only thing I hear from the DNC is drama, frequently for personnel conflicts that in no way were worth the fallout. David Hogg's election wasn't mathematically fair? Ok. Do better next time. Or add a temp position so the others can get their fair shot. Two union leaders supported your opponent? Cool, the election is over and you need to be able to work with them. Telling the heads of the AFT and AFSCME their input is no longer valued is just dumb. Nothing Martin has done warrants this level of devotion.

  • The "party" will, they'll just get an immediate drop in donations from the rich and a new organization not obligated to the party will spring up flush with cash. Sort of like how the establishment abandoned the Nevada DNC after progressives won the election to take it over.

  • He's not going to avoid the definitive defeat, the votes are still going to be counter, he's just not holding out to the bitter end refusing to recognize reality. That might help make the final tally a less interesting news story.

  • George Bush was a simple child elevated to power. He believed in dangerous fantasies and was easily manipulated, but I think he broadly needed to believe he was doing the right thing, so that made implementing the most bald faced evils more complicated. Torture is justified because Jack Bauer needs to save millions of lives from bad men who wanted to kill daddy.

Donald Trump is a mean child elevated to power. He needs no convincing for why the state should do evil. He relishes it. Torture is justified because you're powerful and you don't like them.

  • You misread their comment. Assume that he will lose if you (a generic eligible voter) do not make the effort to vote. Your vote is necessary. Don't take comfort in one poll and relax assuming your fellow citizens are going to fix these problems without you. The poll that counts is tomorrow and we can carry one more day of fear if it gets people to the polls.

  • If the alternative is killing some innocent villagers who didn't do anything, they should choose the prison sentence. They are still making a choice, even if that choice may have consequences trying to force them to the alternative.
