  • Yeah, that was a genuine question. Are those prices US based? I often find Amazon (Germany) even more expensive than alternatives, especially if you don't want to buy cheap chinese trash. Also, if there is really some stuff you really need, I often don't find it hard to find other vendors with similar or cheaper prices. This includes your examples. All the reason for me not to use Amazon.

But if that's really the case and no suitable alternatives exist, I understand the situation of course. However, if someone doesn't have good reasons not to put some effort into searching, you can find me sitting on my horse, morally judging them. ;)

  • *on deterministic computers.

Technically, even then doing the same can lead to different results, if nondeterministic events play a role and the different aspects of the software or system may contain bugs. For example mutlithreaded applications where the scheduler can passively influence the outcome of an operation. In one run it fails, in another it doesn't. A nightmare to debug.

  • I still watch a lot of horror movies and series (especially during Spooktober) in pursuit of those few exceptions. It's sufficient for me to have a more or less dark atmosphere and a macabre story. But I don't engulf myself in illusions: most of them are just really really bad in my opinion. It's like deliberately watching trash, which can be fun if you approach it with that mindset.

  • Having played Void Crew recently, which just launched into early access and therefore has a lot of bugs, it happens astonishingly often how turning a ship's system off and back on again - sometimes even the whole ship - "fixes" a bug (it's more of a workaround).

  • Me too. Have been programming in C++ since I was 10 years old. The first programming language I've learned and the one I still love using today where appropriate for the task at hand.
