  • The Supreme Court will define "treason" by what the constitution says, and Trump does not fall into this category:

“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”

    So, unless you:

a.) Recruit and assemble a militia and use it to actively engage in insurrection or

b.) provide aid to a foreign power with whom we are actively in a declared war

He did not recruit all those Trumpsters, they did that stupid shit on their own. He didn't help the cause, but he did not actively recruit them to attack the government.

My point is that the LEFT is throwing that word around way too much...without really knowing how it's defined.

  • I like how if a liberal/Democrat questions all the financial support for Israel....he's just "protesting Israel's methods." But when a Republican questions all the support for Urkaine "They're all traitors and in bed with Putin!"

Can't win on Lemmy (or Reddit!).

  • But, that's what the Left wants...it literally wants a 100% Liberal/Democrat system. Even Republicans know that there needs to be balance, and we're okay with Democrats and some liberal ideologies...but the Left? Hell no...they literally want to wipe out all Republicans and Conservatives. Just look at the opinions on Lemmy and Reddit? Lol...

  • There has to be a middle ground..if charging Presidents for things they did while in office is going to be allowed, this will in no doubt open a can of worms. I can see Republicans going after Obama for things...

  • I wonder if he is found guilty, can other Presidents be charged with past crimes? I mean, I get the anger from Lefty Lemmy, but, there has to be a middle ground. A President simply can't be charged for something just because one side thinks he's guilty. If that's the case, I can see Republicans going after Obama for crimes he committed while POTUS...

  • Duh. No country is going to do this, it will do nothing but open up a can of worms. I mean, what about the ancestors of the African tribes that rounded up the slaves and sold them? Shouldn't they pay something? What about the countries who fought for slaves to be free? What about all the families of the union soldiers in the US Civil War, shouldn't they get something? Or, is this whole "reparations" thing only for black Americans whose great, great, great, great grandparents were slaves? It's silly.

  • You can hate America all you want, it won't change what happened Post WW2. The fact is Israel is a state for Jewish people now, because those more powerful countries at the time (that lost millions of lives to stop the Axis powers) had to do something for the Jewish people that were misplaced. They made a collective decision, based on what they thought was right at the time. The argument if Palestine belonged to anyone can go back and forth (although at the time it was colonized by the UK) however, it's easy to look back now 75 years later and say "well, they shouldn't have done that!" Israel isn't going anywhere, even without US support, they'll fight until they're dead because that's their home now.

  • Israel is our biggest ally in the Middle East. They literally are our extension in an area that hates America and will stop at nothing to kill us. These "protestors" have no idea how imperative it is that we support Israel because without support, they'd get invaded, slaughtered, and wiped out by the countries surrounding them. The whole point of Israel was to create a home for Jewish people, so that they'd have somewhere to call home if anything like the Holocaust were to ever happen again.

  • Oh brother....here we go.. because THAT'S the responsibility of Americans right? WE NEED TO DO MORE FOR EVERYONE ELSE!!!

"The US needs to stop getting involved in everyone's business" - Sincerely, The World.

"The US needs to do more to get involved in everyone's business" Sincerely, The World.

I swear...people want the US to be the international police until they don't...

  • I vote Republican (apparently I'm the only one on Lemmy) and I'm part of this percentage. I don't care for either candidate, but both sides are going to vote for their candidate, because both sides have the "anyone but him" mentality.

  • Silly. The Right isn't doing anything...people in general are getting fed up. USC cancelled their graduation, imagine being a 4 year student who didn't get to celebrate a graduation in 2020, and now they can't in college? It's getting ridiculous and these "protests" are starting to effect normal people...

  • Actually I don't agree with every Republican stance. I support gay rights, I'm pro-choice (the whole abortion thing with Republicans is my biggest gripe), and I don't think religion should be forced in schools. I'm actually atheist myself. However, as I get older, I'm finding myself agreeing much more with conservative politics. I lean Right, but I'm registered independent. I was told I "must" be a democrat my whole life, because I'm Mexican. I remember at a young age being taught in public schools in Southern California that "minorities must vote democrat." It wasn't until I got older I realized the propaganda that the Left spewed. They told me I was never good enough to vote any other way, but Democrat. So yea, I have a chip on my shoulder now that I'm older and can think more for myself. Democrat policies, politicians, and the Left have always treated me as a "victim" and instilled in my mind that Republicans are bad, and it's THEIR fault my family is poor. Fuck that....it's all lies.
