  • It’s wild to me that you get downvoted so much throughout this thread as the OP with replies that are polite enough and just reiterate your opening opinion about the movie.

I think I’ll go and turn off showing downvotes again, I feel I left the need for that behind at the old place.

  • It’s almost my main reason to not go to the cinema anymore, I do not want to watch any trailers for an upcoming movie I already know I want to see. I’m rather waiting 6 months for streaming. Of course, that means avoiding any info about the movie for 6 more months. It was so much better during Covid when stuff got released almost directly to streaming.

I think Star Wars was the last movies that had good takers that just teased you without revealing any plot points. Modern trailers reveal absolutely every plot and twist in the whole movie. I hate it.

  • I probably don’t care that much for family drama, so that just detracted from the fantasy experience for me? I liked several elements of it, but as a whole it was a noisy experience.

It’s funny that a movie is so divisive.

  • Yeah visuwords is more like a visualized view of the grammar and synonyms for a word in a dictionary and does not allow any new input.

Brain Cloud is instead an unstructured approach that lets you build new connections between words and contexts and to provide new knowledge. I like it.

Could be fun with some additional input where you could for example provide a thumbs up / down if you feel the association is positive or negative.

  • I watched it before I knew anything about the hype, and it was just an ok movie for me. Fun that they dare be playful.

I was very surprised when I saw all the main stream accolades it received. I guess maybe it managed to be seen by a lot of people that wouldn’t normally like weird fantasy movies etc, so it was something new and fun for them?

I watched it again later to see what I had missed. I had not missed anything. Did not finish the last play through.

  • Tip: Have a look at osxphotos, an open source software you can run on your Mac and export all your Apple Photos to your own full structure, including any metadata. So you get a copy that is independent on Apple photos and can be used in any photo library system later, if need be. I send that export to my Synology and C2 every day. I guess I just don’t liked Synology photos backup from phone, had to manually open it all the time.

  • lol that’s funny, didn’t know that was the cause for the latest LastPass breach. I just noped tf out of LastPass after that without looking back.

No I was just referring to their breach in August 2022 where I guess I was annoyed that they didn’t just invalidate/reset everyone’s password immediately. Instead, everyone had to try do to it on their servers, which couldn’t handle the traffic, so then a lot were either unable to reset password, unable to set new one, unable to reclaim server etc.

Also, when trying to calm us with mentioning everything they didn’t think was affected by the breach, it just made me realize that I’m done letting a company like Plex have all that data available to me.

Finally, they have to my knowledge still not acknowledged how the breach took place, just that they have taken steps to avoid it in the future.

  • The Internet is actually very fine and alternatives to the big guys will keep popping up.

For tracking in general there are several options like pihole, adguard and NextDNS on a DNS level, Firefox/Orion browsers, Proton / Mullvad etc VPN and services.

For search I’ve been fairly happy with DuckDuckGo for some years, but not swears by Kagi.

What is gone is the early days of the seventies / early eighties with free servers at universities accessible to anyone. It doesn’t scale.

Various models tried to figure it out until we got what we’ve had for the last 10 years, “free” services where you are the product.

What you won’t get going forward is free services that gives you what you want without also tracking and collecting data on you and using it for ads etc.

What you can get is high quality services that you choose to pay for.

For now, a fair bit of them is niche and sort of expensive. Hopefully that will expand to giving is fairly broad service coverage from providers that are mostly crowd funded and open.

  • From my experience, their communication about the last security breach was slow, lackluster and left me wanting. End result was that I did no longer trust them. In reality I may have been biased and already subconsciously made up my mind about their trustworthiness. Everyone have to make their own opinion and decisions.

  • I feel Europe is a lot more diverse than you think. In Norway, which have a fairly high percentage of iPhone users, iMessage is the most used - or at least I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use it by default.

A few friends chat are on Messenger or Snapchat. Signal / Telegram / WhatsApp etc are extremely rare.
