Linux @lemmy.ml

Use supervisor or desktop Linux for TV gaming PC + NAS?

  • If you're not really into the civilization series, I would always wait when the game has a huge sale.

I started with Civ5 during a 10$ sale with all expansions, 200 Hours. As a treat I bought Civ6 on launch, which while slightly barebone (all civ games are on launch) was really fun, and after buying the expansions and a couple DLC I got 500h on it so clearly a good investment.

I would put Civ6 and Civ7 in your wishlist to get notified when there's a sale, and see if you like it or not after the fact.

The current reviews for 7 are mostly about the UI and the limited selection of civs to choose, also for some reason some players can't bare the idea of stopping the game at the cold war just before the moon landing.

  • The best way I've discovered 40k lore beyond hearing from a friend and some meme is Luetin09, which has a great narrator voice, consider his channel a huge audio library of alleged facts and stories.

Also, I heavily recommend Arbitor Ian as he has both a nice presentation style, and also talks about the meta aspects (like how things evolved in the 40 years of 40K lore changing)

  • "There's no way you're taking Kairi's Heart!" "Come" "Show me your power" "Welcome Oblivion"

Heard it over and over again because KH1 was hard as a kid :') But at least there's Forze del Male (the boss music) which is peak 👌

  • It's still on and will close at the end of the month. But yes I'm very annoyed that they didn't share much of the instance outside a small notification on the admin.ch website. But the goal of this whole pilot test is that if Mastodon became big within the year, they would already have an instance running with officials accounts. But instead I guess they will focus on Bluesky.

  • Fediverse @lemmy.world

After a year of operation, Switzerland's government closes its Mastodon instance

  • For the mods at least, the dev interview at PAX clearly had a moment when one guy said "the possibilities of combination with civilizations switching is going to be higher, especially with the modding community adding custom civs.

But since they said a huge part of the playerbase is console, I'm guessing mods won't be using the steam workshop but the launcher so that consoles can have mods...

As for Linux support yeah I would like to hope, maybe the stats of Civ6 on the steamdeck could push them to make it compatible but if they have denuvo I doubt it...

  • Also noted :

    • Navigable rivers
    • terrain has cliffs
    • armies seems to be condensed, with generals leading them. Fighting looks to be constant in some way? (or that's just the render for the trailer)
    • cities seem to expand much more
    • the leaders looks to have some stats which can be improved
  • No eye-tracking, but Foveated rendering on compatible games... I wonder if that's criptics for "we have an API but we won't share it and keep it for our own games".

Well that or the PSVR2 system actually has a low quality frame generated, and the headset adds details with AI on the viewed zone... 🤔

  • Switzerland does have a mandatory service for all men, and doesn't have belligerent neighbours... But the Swiss army is still very much stuck in the cold war mindset of being afraid of an invasion. Last time there was a vote, the people refused to abolish the militia system.

Tbh I don't think military service is a problem as long as it's only used for defence and is properly setup, instead of have nutjobs running the small professional army and wanting war because they trained their whole life for it...

  • I thought this was going be a more technical oriented video about what I'd sound like with the performance of the sound chip and the speaker, and the cartridge memory size limitation, bit sad it isn't :(
