  • There were few efforts of diplomacy since 2000. Both sides refused to talk. A third party should have been asked for but the Palestinian government decided to invest in missiles instead. At this point Israel should just officially annex Gaza and the Palestinian people will be free to live their lives as Israeli citizens. Plenty of Muslims, Christians, Druze and even Atheists all live together in Israel. They just won't be able to enforce their draconian religious laws on those who don't want to follow them due to Israel being a free nation.

  • Mexico fired first, they invaded the United States territory after slaughtering hundreds at the Alamo. They didn't expect the United States to respond and certainly didn't expect the border dispute to lead to the complete defeat of the Mexican military. What they didn't know is the vast innovations developed at West Point that crushed all opposition, mostly through military engineering innovation.

While Mexico was completely defeated and President Pierce took advantage of the situation, it was the actions of Mexico that led to their defeat. They invited war and lost. The United States had every right to take territory but it decided to make it a legal transaction of land instead and led to peaceful diplomacy going forth.

The acquisition of the west thus doesn't fall under conquest but a legal land transaction between governments. Same as the Louisiana Purchase, the Oregon Treaty, and the Alaska Purchase.

  • That is looking at it from today, not from how it was viewed then. The main reason Mexico was fine with selling was the massive desert that separated the two areas and the extremely violent native population that inhabited the region. That reason didn't become peaceful until the 1920s.

  • Rock just means electric guitar, electric bass, and drums with a time signature 4/4 style to songs and verses chorus form.

  • These days I generally only listen to Alt Rock but that is still a broad category from it's start in the early 80s to today. Under Alt Rock falls New Wave, Punk, Post Punk, Grunge, Ska, Emo, and even College or Idie Rock.

I personally find it the most creative, expansive and enjoyable genre for music.

  • RSS lists that include your local news is your best bet. Then you don't have an algorithm sending you the worse most stressful news, it's listed in the order of the datastamp it was posted.

  • Americans don't pay attention to elections until labor day before an election.

  • The United States never wanted Mexico. Thus it bought the parts of Mexico that it's citizens were already moving to. It could have just taken it through conquest but it didn't.

  • Yes, why didn't they use their words rather than build up an invasion military to massacre innocent civilians?

  • I'm more inclined to focus on the teenagers who are far more likely to grow up to be terrorists.

  • One of the elements of the American Civil War that people don't know is, yes, early in the war disease was a big killer, but by the end of the war in the North the American Red Cross was established and soldiers were able to recover from battlefield wounds in safe and sterile hospitals.

A great example is Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain recovery from a gruesome bullet wound at Petersburg. He was hit in the right hip and torn through his Lower body and out the left hip. The division doctor actually recorded him dead, but he was promoted to Brigadier General by Grant as a result. He was evacuated to first a field hospital than five months of recovery at a hospital. He returned to Command before the end of the war and was the General who actually accepted Lee's surrender of his army at Appomattox. He was in charge of the collection of arms and ordered his troops to salute their defeated foe in an act of chivalry.

So while early in the war medical care was terrible, there was a revolution in battlefield medicine by the end of the war.

  • Maybe next time don't start a war in October? Or just don't start a war and actually open diplomac relationships to solve problems.

  • Even considering the Antichrist says a lot about Republicans.

  • Republican voters really support career criminals, pedophiles, rapists, and neo nazis. That's who they like.

  • You try being an unpaid college intern and being told by the President to do sexual favors. She is not to blame.

  • Nope, just saying your missing A LOT historically. What doesn't change is that the west was purchased for $10 million.

  • You are assuming a lot, especially that Mexico had a functional government even before their Army slaughters settlers in Texas.
