Anti-China/pro-Taiwan sentiment isn't exactly unique to the US. I think you're alluding to an incendiary tone with respect to how you say Americans express their views, but that doesn't seem to quite fit so I'm a little lost there.

Bold of you to assume what I do and don't know about geopolitics. I'm well aware of the fine line that the US government walks, but I don't speak for the US government and my views aren't informed by "propaganda" but by the simple observations that 1) the PRC is a totalitarian regime, and 2) that Taiwan is a de facto sovereign state which broadly speaking doesn't particularly want to be assimilated into the PRC. Where is the propagandistic angle here?

The obvious intention is to somehow "prove" that Taiwan is a part of the PRC. It's a really common tactic by people trying to push the CCP's worldview.

I'm not sure why you would assume I'm American. I mean, you happen to be right in this case, but I'm still not sure why you'd assume that.

Anyhow, there's an irony in your assertion that disagreeing with the position of one's government is "brainwashed."

This article is nearly two years old. Also, I implicitly distrust any source which depicts Taiwan as part of the PRC.

I mean, I guess if you're just outright antisocial like this then your priorities make sense. All the rest of us can do is take solace in the fact that you seem to be completely miserable.

I believe COVID still kills a lot more people than circulating flu strains as of right now. Also, if you truly believe COVID was a "nothingburger" I would advise you to talk to literally anyone who worked as a medical professional in a hospital in the last few years.

This was my first thought as well before I put two and two together lol.

It's a very slow moving project by design for better or for worse. There also hasn't been a ton of developer interest in the DE space in supporting it until the last few years since it would necessarily take resources away from other work, and generally X has been "good enough" until recently. I don't have anything to back this up but I suspect that the increased accessibility of gaming on Linux as well as HRR and HDR displays entering the mainstream had a lot to do with this renewed interest.

You can "star" repositories on GitHub. I believe this has always been a feature.

Except that's not actually an issue in practice. In a real-world conversation you would disambiguate with "Let's get breakfast" or "Let's get dinner" if you're not referring to the immediate future. I honestly can't think of a single time that I've been genuinely confused in this way.

It appears to be a rule against posting food made from animal products. As someone who doesn't eat animal products myself, I don't particularly enjoy scrolling Reddit or Lemmy and seeing a picture of a meat dish, but it doesn't ruin my day I would never dream of demanding a content warning for it.

To my knowledge CWs are geared towards content that has the potential to trigger past trauma, and I can't understand how a food category could be so broadly traumatic to someone (outside of EDs I guess, which is obviously not the focus of this rule).

I think this is overselling it a little. I still run into issues with Proton from time to time that require sigkilling it and its children, and some games (especially EA titles) are finnicky and can take a few tries to launch properly.

As for VR, SteamVR on Linux outright sucks. It virtually never works the first time I launch it and requires some combination of reconnecting hardware and restarting software and the computer, and it's plagued with bugs (most recently the UI rendering upside down in the new beta).

Don't get me wrong, Linux has been my primary platform for some 5 years and my only one for the last few and I'd never dream of going back to Windows, and gaming on Linux has progressed unbelievably in the time I've been daily-driving it. But it still isn't totally painless and there's definitely more room for improvement in the coming years.

Maybe I'm mistaken on this, but I'm fairly certain the screenshot they describe as "Unity" is just a heavily themed GNOME. Also, I've never seen Xfce stylized as "XFCe." I realize that's not the point of the article, but just something that stood out to me.

What do you have to gain from being this rude to strangers and using slurs against them? This behavior is legitimately antisocial, and unless you're literally 13 years old it's inexcusable.
