  • I think it would be a worthwhile exercise to draft up some amendments to fix the SCOTUS and lopsided representation problems.

It won't pass. 0% chance. But , it would serve as a blueprint of what could be if voters gave them a super majority. And a foundation for a time in the distant future if both parties could actually govern in good faith again.

And it would signal to voters that the Dems are looking to improve our government, not just cling to the status quo like many voters (here, at least) seem to think.

  • The Republicans have never given a single shit about veterans, they just like the flag waving and faux patriotism. They nominated the guy who consistently insults veterans, calling those who fell in war "losers", and the rest of their elected officials consistently starve the VA so that veterans can't receive the care they were promised.

Like everything else the Republicans claim to "support", it's in name only, and no substance. They only support their billionaire overlords, and the orange fuhrer himself.

  • I find it useful at a glance, specifically when I don't recognize a niche source. There's a lot of "alt" media under random names. This helps flag them.

For mainstream, you can easily make your own call. You should be exposed to enough of it.

  • It didn't have planned obsolescence in it. People bought the 3 devices they needed for their house, and have been coasting off them for a decade. Maybe with the occasional refresh for 4k or a worn out USB port or whatever.

Just corporate greed on display here. People stopped buying them because the product was simple and did what it was supposed to for a long time. Gotta enshitify it so we see those $$$ roll in again.

Edit - they also probably thought it would be a revenue stream for buying videos through Google or get their cut from some android app, but people instead watched their media from sources outside their pay umbrella

  • I've gotten "dude, what the fuck are you?!" you before, which I thought was a hilarious way to breach the subject.

I'm tall, had very long (black) hair at the time and had a dark tan. I could pass as part native, black, Hispanic, Asian, pretty much anything.

    It was a fair question.

  • Half Asian here. At least in my experience, those questions don't tend to come from a place of malice, just a genuine curiosity of ethnic background since they can't figure it out by look.

Sure, there are some racists too. But I've had plenty of ambivalent conversations that start off that way. Beats starting a conversation on weather or other generic topics.

  • Personally, all the moderate conservatives I knew abandoned the republican party long before covid hit, but I can see that being the last straw for a few. By the time covid came along, the only conservatives I know that were still Red voters stayed red after covid

  • It's hard to believe where we are now. It seems like not to long ago, we had Obama vs McCain, who were both respectable candidates. It wasn't until McCain chose Palin as his running mate that shit got weird. And the danger was amplified by McCain being old.

I want to go back to politics where "both sides" were just corporate shills and everyone knew life was going to be OK, but corps were going to slowly fuck us.

Now it seems like life and death.

  • This from a company who refused to update their drivers for a USB speaker system for 7, even though it was still actively being sold at stores.

I had bought it a few months earlier at a Fry's, on sale. I think the sku was just about 2 years old, just expiring on their support policy, as a new OS dropped.

Their customer support told to me kick sand.

Fuck Logitech. Their Mice are the only thing I've continued to use because they are actually reliable. But now they're trying to enshitify that behind a subscription, so that's it.

  • So they had no step 2 to their plan. Harris was always the only plausible candidate if Biden dropped out.

The Republicans relentlessly attacked Bidens age and mental ability to get him to drop out.

    And it worked.

But they had no idea what to do if they got their wish?

I'm honestly surprised that Harris has been getting momentum. She seemed to not have the charisma to hit the ground running on a short race. The Republicans seemed to think the same, but they had no attacks ready to fire the second the torch was passed to her?

They're like a dog that caught the car.

  • It's not a given. Lemmy is under a constant barrage of comments only attacking Biden and the Dems for supporting Isreal and therefore genocide. The blame is only put on Biden and the Dems.

Keeping perspective of how much worse the Republicans are in this specific regard if extremely imperious during this election. Being critical of the Dems is fine, but keeping the real context is vital.

The objective of these users who only criticize the Dems is clear. Stop falling for it.

  • I was against Biden dropping out because I don't think Harris has charisma. I've been pleasantly surprised at the initial reaction.

While I hope to be proven wrong, I suspect this initial momentum is going to fade before long and it's going to get rough as the excitement dies down and the Right get their talking points dialed in.

But it's going far better than I thought in these first few days, so I'll happily take the L on my predictions.

  • I thought MAGA was coined when he was demonizing immigrants and campaigning on building a wall and making Mexico pay for it.

It was a racists dog whistle from the very beginning. It meant expelling the Jews Mexicans to make America White again. After 8 years of a Black president.

Did people really miss this? This was like... the main focus of his campaign.

  • We're celebrating the apparent increase in voters that aren't even following the duopoly policies enough to recognize literal fascism vs imperfect but generally good faith politicians.

If they're not informed enough to see the face eating leopard party for what it is, adding more parties to the mix won't improve anything.

I agree that ranked choice voting is desirable. But it won't help with these kinds of voters.

  • You're not imagining it. During Obama, the nazis were literally marching the streets. Remember those tiki torch MFs?

And coincidentally, white pride militia wannabes sprung up with that momentum and marched behind Trump.

    This isn't subtle.
