I'm so two minds about it. On one hand it's an incredibly stupid idea (reliability, extra screen/cameras, two batteries...), but at the same time it's really a marvel of technology and a real miracle that they actually make it work.
I can imagine a Razr in my distant future if Moto survives and doesn't get shittier. Altho I'll probably still prefer other aspects to a foldable screen.
I keep saying that the US needs to have its own big instance (or several) to host all those communities about US cities and sports teams that nobody else needs to care about, as well as potentially a good chunk of users and to exist as a large server alternative to lw.
One problem I foresee with smaller instances is discovery. As we know, if someone creates a new community somewhere else, your instance will onlyrecognise it once someone searches for it.
On a large instance like lemmy.world, there's a good chance that someone else did, and you can stumble upon it by browsing /all. On a smaller instance this may not happen unless it's set up to discover and thus mirror every community everywhere.
The whole UAP thing, and how it's been handled since forever, and all the related stuff, that's not helping things.
By "related stuff" I mean, for example, how the US congress people are after the Pentagon's budget. My personal conspiracy theory is that their aim isn't to save taxpayer money, but have a peek into more military projects so they can maybe find something to get a cut on. So it makes sense for them to make a ruckus about potential aliens instead.
See, conspiracy theories are easy to make. And honestly, with military/security/government shit, you truly never know.
Yes, that's why they're designed that way, to be compatible both ways.
Same goes for mono jacks in stereo socket and vice versa.
The only problem was over 10 years ago when there were two standards of TRRS, with one of the two connections swapped (so maybe the other one was TRSR or something, I don't remember anymore). So if you used earphones with the other standard, they'd only play sound when you pressed down the button. That thing has been looong abandoned tho, and I think Sony Ericsson was the only major brand using them anyway.
Brakes are assholes, when they overheat they can fail basically suddenly. You do get a warning in lower effectiveness or one side braking more than the other, but if you're not familiar with that feeling, you may not realise it. Also modern cars are made so that everything just feels the same all the time.
You can see it in car races such as in F1. Braking braking, suddenly boom, car is in the barrier.
Yes, they'll work again after cooling down unless they're shit and got deformed, or you crashed.
That's why it's important to have brakes checked regularly, you get little to no warning in modern cars. Same with clutch and a bunch of other mechanisms.
Would you consider adding !health@lemmy.world ? We don't put other comms into our sidebar however, as we're building a list of all health-related communities on Lemmy (currently just under a 100) and we just wanna be a hub for anything health related :p
I doubt that's a new thing honestly. I've always been encountering people who think only of themselves.
But also, a part of this social contract should be things like "nobody's perfect" and "everyone makes mistakes". That goes with your part together too, sometimes we don't think something through and may come ofd as selfish or ignorant. But that's also normal if it just happens randomly sometimes and it's not too much of a pattern.
I think these days we tend to demand perfection too much, and write someone off way too quickly.
