  • Odd. It works fine for me on Android and Desktop Linux Firefox. Perhaps Apple specific?

  • On the Ukraine front, Russia is definitely still winning. You can check the maps yourself for the high level. I'm not sure where these 10s of miles are that they advancing, but I don't see it on a map of Ukraine.

On the lower level, the Ukrainian armed forces appears to just barely be holding on. Most of their true believers are dead, and they are increasingly relying on people that they kidnapped. They are taking massive disproportionate casualties, and as we can clearly observe from NATO panic, Russia is winning in the materiel war as well. This is a war of attrition, and Russia is decisively winning. Hell, even the messaging from on high has changed from saying that Ukraine is winning to Ukraine can still win if NATO just sanctions a bit more and sends more guns. This is also not working, and NATO knows that they cannot keep up with even their existing pace forever.

  • I'm honestly not sure that there is a plan. It's just racism with a side of exceptionalism. The idea is that the great and powerful US military can bomb anyone they want with impunity, so long as they aren't a nuclear power. And with the meerest hint of possibility that Iran might become a nuclear power soon, it's a good time to go bombing again. They've been talking for years about how much they wanted to.

  • It's only been a couple of weeks since the anniversary of the start of the white terror, which killed tens of thousands of Chinese dissidents. I must have missed the news remembering that.

  • In regards to one of his slaves who refused to work, and was whipped for it:

"Your treatment of Charlotte was very proper—and if she, or any other—of the Servants will not do their duty by fair means—or are impertinent, correction (as the only alternative) must be administered."

-- George Washington, slave owner and racist.

  • Fair enough. I know enough of the history to recognise that the details were a bit off. But it was close enough to the truth I didn't think it was worth quibbling about.

  • Nothing in that disclaims the meme. It's actually worse.

"At the federal level, there really was no reason to pay soldiers bounties for killing Indians. That was their job."

  • It's because they removed the bit in their core promises about not selling your user data. They apparently sell generalised user trends, but not data for individual users. Legal was concerned that this would count as selling user data, which prompted the removal.

I understand and acknowledge the complaint, but personally I'm sticking with Firefox. I don't like the removal of that phrase much, but everyone is already tracking me. Without Mozilla, there would only be Chrome. But I will be watching this situation closely to see if things worsen.

  • You also have to remember that this is a couple seasons in. Their capitalist masters are going to insist that the leftism be taken down a notch or two. I thought that Snowpiercer remained pretty good throughout the show though. The last season is a pretty nice jab at NATO.

For contrast, look at the tragedy that was For All Mankind. It starts out with Americans whinging about losing the race to the moon, and follows up with getting their asses kicked in human rights. A couple seasons later, they're saying that poor people don't exist in Vietnam because the government killed them all, and showing the evil communist hardliners fighting peaceful beloved Gorbachev. I stopped watching at that point.

  • How about doing one with a capitalist country that wasn't bombed to smithereens? Maybe a rich one. That's surely going to prove capitalism is better, right?

US and Israel rewrite history of UN resolution that declared Zionism is racism

  • This reminds me of 2001, when Americans were watching for Al Qaeda behind every corner, and securing their local Applebee's from terrorism (mild exaggeration).

  • Thank you for the literature! I will read it.

  • You know, that description fits me pretty well. I've always been "left". I drifted over the line to communist, and then drifted into Marxist as I read more theory and learnt the truth about AES states. What really makes my blood boil though is imperialism, fascism, and the propaganda that enables them. I want to try to fight those as best I can before worrying about being a perfect Marxist. Perhaps it's similar with her?

  • Translation: We didn't think you'd notice the blatant support of fascism, we'll try harder to conceal it in the future.

  • I remember hearing about it (possibly on some queer subreddit), and thought it was amazingly brave that she could be so open about it. It's sad that it's turned so ugly, but I'm glad she's still staying strong.

  • Yeah, I'm right here with you. I've explored hundreds of systems in Elite. I get excited when I find an interesting planet. It would be really weird and immersion breaking for me if every planet was interesting.

  • That's what they eventually did. They do that with other countries as well.

  • I'm not really into playing 4x games multiplayer. But I did play Stellaris multiplayer. It can get pretty frantic if you don't pause every now and then, but a far cry from boring.

  • About damned time. I was checking the LGBT travel advisories a few months ago, and was surprised that the US was green. Absolutely no way should anyone be travelling to Florida.
