  • Then don't buy one.

Also, the panicky "Nintendo will break your Switch 2 to make you buy a Switch 3"... sigh. Just think for a second before writing stuff like that.

Why on earth are peolle posting stuff in a Nintendo sublemmy when they obviously think the worst of the company? This is worse than reddit.

  • Wow, thank you so much for this write-up! That Selaco box looks perfect!

  • Putting aside that you're comparing GPU prices to full system prices, I'm going to write what I always write:

People buy Nintendo consoles for the Nintendo games.

Looking at it in a purely technical way is completely missing the point. Nintendo does not compete on a technical level. It does just enough to give third parties a space to put games on. That's pretty much all they need.

A family will not buy a Steam Deck. Can't exactly go to a the next store and buy one either. The Steam Deck, just as all handheld gaming PCs are niche devices.

The Xbox Series S is an all digital device and not everyone is comfy with that. Also, it only does 1080, 1440 for some games.

Don't get me started on a decent gaming PC. That's way out of the league of an average family.

PS5s are as expensive and offer few actual exclusive games. Family games are rare (the extraordinary Astro Bot being an outlier).

From that perspective... the only alternative casual consumers have to a Switch 2 is... a Switch 1?

(Also that second to last gen performance claim is weird. If Digital Foundry is to be believed, Switch 2 is a very capable machine a slight cut above PS4 with some advanced stuff in the hood. Considering that the Switch 1 was able to surprise many times on a technical level, I think it's going to be a decent enough machine. Certainly not second to last gen, which would be 360/PS3).

  • Yeah what does it give us except for... access to Nintendo exclusive games and maybe the best portable experience available for that price?

  • Hope Unlce Derek is having some success with that video. He fell on some hard times.

  • You buy a Nintendo console for Nintendo games. If you don't want the latest Nintendo games, you don't get the new console. You want them and can't afford it? Save up, sell off some old games or wait for a second hand unit. Fomo is your enemy.

I feel like a lot of social media discussion about this is overblown. Gaming is a luxury in the end.

  • Videogame publishers not caring about their backcatalogs. If they'd care about preservation and actual long term gain, they'd make old games available.

It took EA so long to make Sims 1 and 2 available. It felt like they actively hate money. And there are plenty of other games that people would love to buy and that are just not made available.

If owning the physical retro game is the only way to play the game (legally) that will help drive up prices.

This is of course but one of the reasons.

  • Why exactly are we still bringing this up? We all know it was a shitty thing to do... this post reeks of ragebait.

  • Those concerns are so super niche, I doubt they'll be a big problem for Nintendo. I know it may not seem that way, but handheld PCs are not a widespread product.

  • If "normies" are able to buy a Playstation 5 after having bought a PS4, 3, 2 and 1, Then I think Nintendo is going to be just fine.

  • I think I made it clear why this reminded me of bad reddit posts.

You clearly have more knowledge about portable gaming laptops than I have. So my opinion might be based in ignorance. I am hardly whining though.

I feel like having several items (laptop plus controller) to carry around is a bigger dealbreaker than having a bigger device. Though I agree that an increase in size and weight can be problematic.

I also never wanted to imply that this community has no value and I am sorry I gave that impression.

  • That sure is one way to handle criticism. I'm not going to let you push me out of a community though.

  • I'm not being bitter. I just feel that the wording of the original post is pretty baity. You're unhappy with size and weight, and that is a valid point worth discussing. But making the jump to laptops? Hyperbolic engagement bait. I don't like it. If others do, that's fine. But I feel this trend of engagement bait is bad for platforms in general. And I want to keep the illusion up that lemmy is better than this.

If it isn't, then I still feel it's worthwhile to point out that discussions can be had without the hyperbole.

  • Aren't you missing the point? The portability and formfactor (controller) is what makes handheld pcs like this worthwhile. A laptop is a laptop, it's not really made for portable play and you'd need to lug around a controller.

I stopped using Reddit because of shitposts like these and here we are again.

  • Started with Emio, the third Famicom detective Club game and I am really digging it this far.

  • It is oldschool and has a slower pace so far but the case is interesting and keeps me engaged. Nice art and music.

  • I started the remake of the first Famicom Detective Club and I am enjoying it quite a bit.
