I hadn't even heard about this quake. I think our attention may just be taken up with a few issues here, and I'm really glad the international community can take up the slack while we get our shit sorted out....

Unfortunately Costco is just as shitty as all the rest of the huge american corporations. They're just better at PR than most of the others.

In the past 48 hours, Costco’s upper management has escalated its illegal and reckless behavior. The company expelled union representatives from stores, harassed and intimidated workers for wearing Teamsters buttons and attire, sent employees home, and even changed locks on union bulletin boards after the company removed literature and blocked the Teamsters from providing future updates.

Short answer: It's a turn of phrase the Incel movement popularized as a dehumanizing dogwhistle.

Long answer: In current American English, "Female" and "Females" are highly formal terms and really are only commonly used in situations like law and academic discourse (this is true of "male" and "males" as well, though there's much less cultural baggage associated with those terms). People who use them in casual conversation instead of the much more common "Women" (or the diminutive, "Girls") tend to be the kind of person that uses formal language to emphasize their own intellectual superiority over the common masses, and in particular all the women who won't have sex with them. In fact and almost invariably, this is presented in the form of explanations about why nobody wants to have sex with them, and the cultural forces that are causing it, and why deep down it's the women's fault they can't get a date, and it just all goes downhill from there.

Were this true, we wouldn't be discussing it. This is not an issue from hundreds of years ago, this is the reality lived by more than a billion people every day. There are places where attacks from feral dog packs are a present concern (example, example), there's countless reports about this it truly is not difficult to verify. How would you approach this, if you had less than $2.15/day to survive on? A thrown rock is a great deal more effective at addressing the problem than even the most fervent moralizing.

The playgrounds I grew up on could only be visited while armed guards were there. That many children in once place made too tempting a target to be left otherwise unprotected.

Throwing a rock to protect your food is humanity at it's most fundamental level. It's the reason we were able to develop as a species. When you're reduced to that point, you do not have the luxury of extending your morality to the things that threaten you and yours. I'm sorry you have to confront this today, but this is the reality of life for most people in the world. It's despicable by your standards, but your standards have gone generations without facing extreme hardship. I sincerely hope you never have more experience with the subject than discussing it online.

It's not like it would even be a bad choice --- the Army has been wanting their own version of the V-22 for ages, and cybertrucks are about as close as a ground vehicle can get to that particular engineering marvel.
