"It's tragic that in ignorance there truly is bliss; we can never cherish it while we have it, but we still mourn it's passing when we lose it."
Throwing a rock to protect your food is humanity at it's most fundamental level. It's the reason we were able to develop as a species. When you're reduced to that point, you do not have the luxury of extending your morality to the things that threaten you and yours. I'm sorry you have to confront this today, but this is the reality of life for most people in the world. It's despicable by your standards, but your standards have gone generations without facing extreme hardship. I sincerely hope you never have more experience with the subject than discussing it online.
Man, if the fascists wind up being the driving force behind electrifying the US Army Motor Pool I am going to laugh until I pee myself...
It's not like it would even be a bad choice --- the Army has been wanting their own version of the V-22 for ages, and cybertrucks are about as close as a ground vehicle can get to that particular engineering marvel.
I can't really think of a better example of what you're talking about than that there's three other people replying to this, each recommending you use a different flavor of linux...
They're often not even that partisan, they assume biden is just yet another symptom of the corruption thats been ongoing for decades. Centrists that croon on about how Both Sides Are The Same don't just mean that Dems are corrupt, it means republicans are too. Thats why they're so quick to turn on their own if they don't fall in line with trump - hes the only one that isn't an insider, so anyone that opposes him is clearly trying to defend or protect the old corrupt government, and therefor isn't really on their side.
Well, no. You're absolutely right. Conservative media doesn't tell them about it, liberal media is (they're told) full of manipulated lies, how else are they going to learn about how unjust the system is, besides firsthand experience? They're effectively denied any other avenue to find out.
IDK, I think this is a great example of how insidious the republican propaganda truly is. Going by whats in the article, it seems like he really does love his wife. The issue seems to be that he's fundamentally an idiot he really believes in the myth of Trump as the maverick beltway outsider who's lack of government experience means he's the only one able to clear up the injustices and inefficencies of our current government.
Speaking with Newsweek, Bartell described the emotional toll of watching his wife being detained. "It's all been a nightmare really, taking things as they come and moving forward," he said. "We have an attorney. The system for getting people through seems to be very inefficient, so it is taking longer than it should."
Regarding Trump, Bartell said: "He didn't create the system, but he does have an opportunity to improve it. Hopefully, all this attention will bring to light how broken it is."
Seriously, this is what they believe. MAGA voters aren't the crazed immigrant-hating bible-spewing few that grab attention and make such a convenient person for us to hate, they're average people who can generally identify the injustices of the system... but have been sold the idea that, somehow, trump is going to fix them. And not just fix them, fix them so the people who let them get this way will be punished for their willful nay intentional neglect and therefore geit their just comeuppance for all the cruelty they inflicted by being such jews greedy, lazy, people.
.... yeah, so this guy is a Grade-A imbecile, but hes been drinking a very cloying brand of kool-ade that presents the cruelty as anyone else's fault besides the republicans.
But... they're attacking said world-collapsable superpower precisely by flying drones at boats. But US geopolitical ties to the House of Saud really are too complex to summarize in a lemmy comment!
So that said, a summary in a lemmy comment: The regional power of the US is very much tied to the stability of Saudi power in the region, which is itself tied to approx. three thousand years of political infighting, outfighting and just general fighting. Its complicated, but our bases alone in the region are dependent on keeping the Saudis in power, and are a huge US consideration.
Idk what realizable power the houtis have, I haven't actually been arguing for them being in what you may call a "good position" since the start of this. All I think is that grabbing the attention of an unstable lunatic is probably a bad idea when he's the head of an operation that can casually warcrime hundreds of your people when not even really trying. Focusing that attention on yourself when you're the aggressors is... only going to end badly, and I wish they acted like they knew that.
There's been more than enough death already without pouring fuel onto the funeral pyres, and as much as I'd like to stop the killing on the "killing" side, that's proving really hard.
The fall of the saudi oil fields would lead to the weakening of opec, and thus the already precarious nature of the petro dollar, a cornerstone of american financial hegemony, would be scooted just that much closer to the edge of collapse. But it is gross understatement to say the politics of this region cannot be accurately summarized in a lemmy comment.
As contentious statements go, "The average american does not posess even an abstract understanding of the political and economic realities present in the mid. east" is one I wouldn't even consider objecting to.
If a movement doesn't understand the difference between picking one's battles and acquiescense it's cause is already long lost.
The rate at which the trump admin is willing to turn Resistance Fighters into Martyr Paste is unsustainable for everyone except the trump admin. Antagonizing that administration now, during one of it's many fits of impotent self-importance, is going to end in more dead civilians than if you'd just waited a few days for it's idiot attention span to burn out. It's not a war of attrition based on the competing political wills of two populaces any more, its an abhorent massacre overseen by a psycho. The name of the game is no longer 'Defeat or Drive Out', its 'Survive'.
... How would you prefer it were done?
