When I look at my subscriptions, I sort by new because it lets me see what I want quicker. Top is filled with old things so I almost never use it. Hot is what I use if not restricting to just subs. Once I'm done looking at what's new, I'm done. No wasting time on stuff I've seen before.

The money would be wasted on things like super yachts anyways. At least a good chunk of this waste goes to things like feeding and housing soldiers and contractors and paying those people and all the people who make the food, supplies, etc. Seems less wasteful than just giving it to billionaires. Granted, the weapons, when they actually function at all, can be used to cause harm to many people...

For me, I think the criteria I'd use for saying someone has a decent understanding of math is knowing that math has underlying rules and most things can be understood from those basic rules (each problem is not just an arbitrary magic trick to get an answer that was impossible figure out) and perhaps also being able to ask "novel" questions (compared that what you already know) and taking reasonable steps to answer it with the rules you do know and the tools you have (doesn't need to be successful). I think counting could be done with any consistent set of sounds and it doesn't matter whether yours just reading those sounds for a list or not as long as you know roughly what they correspond to in terms of time. I don't think a lot of humans have much understanding of math, I think some computers already beat a lot of humans with respect to that.

Given capital strikes are a thing, simply not taking money doesn't mean they are immune the influence of those entrenched interest groups. But it's certainly better than outright corruption.

Even before the API changes, half the content seemed to be bots reposting stuff. Think it's gonna be hard to judge how much worse it is if bots get better at not obviously being bots. Entirely possible bots keep the site moving enough that casual users who just want to browse memes or get some news while on a break don't care if its almost entirely bots and AI.

Given rw bots are given free-reign over many political topics on mainstream sites, seems like there no issue with having conversations as long as the conversation is pro-corporate talking points on topics like climate change and the bots are overwhelmingly on the rw side of the issue.

The only area where people are likely to get banned is things like being overtly pro-genocide against groups other than all humans.

Tbf, they're a self-acclaimed smart person who doesn't want to get banned. At least they haven't gotten themselves banned yet, so can't find fault with that statement yet.

As someone who probably would have had to deal with a decade of abuse and neglect as a child if such a change had happened in Texas 20 years ago, I can prefer confidently say yes, it is monstrous.

As someone whose had a lesbian non-biological parent and a birther go to the court over our custody in Texas, I'm thankful the judge recognized my mom's legitimacy as our parent and gave her full custody. But it could have easily turned out differently simply because of the non-biological parent part, but at least her name was on our birth certificates and we had her last name from birth. Can't imagine it would have turned out the same otherwise despite the other person clearly being totally unfit to raise children.

The politicians acting like this isn't discrimination that acts against the interests of children are lying or ignorant of the downstream consequences.

It's been more than a couple years since Ive tried using Linux (back when I used it as my primary os).

My experience have been mostly with ubuntu-based OSes like Mint. First laptop I installed Linux on, the audio didn't just work. It didn't work at all for a while, despite trying many fixes. Otherwise it actually did work decently well. On my next laptop, it would just one day no longer boot or login for some reason or another and I'd just have to do a clean install because I didn't know how to fix it. That happened maybe every other month? On both laptops, the two-finger scroll behavior had settings to change how it behaved in the default installed software, but on Linux it was always finicky getting it to work the way I wanted.

Also installing things is a lot more annoying for stuff that require command line vs just clicking it and telling it to install.

There are times where there's something I want, but won't get it unless it happens to be convenient while getting things I need. Like ice cream; on my way out I'm going through exactly 1 frozen food aisle and if there's something else I want to check that's not in the ice cream aisle, then I just don't get ice cream (and if I do go through that aisle and I'm still unlikely to get it unless its on sale). The exposure only matters because being exposed to it means its convenient, not that I suddenly want something I hadn't considered.

You say it doesn't exist, but you promoted the anti-virgin and anti-single norms (whether you believe in them or not) and try to tie complex multifaceted issues like depression and loneliness to your single pet issue. You say I'm acting in bad faith, but I take personal issue with the ideas you are promoting incidental to your main point (which isn't something I'm really responding to at all).

There's obviously issues. I grew up in a time that pressured people into doing things like dating and having sex they didn't want. Real issue men face. Are you dismissing that issue?
