  • Pretty sure they already do compile a lot of it. But then we get to play the game of "guess their number" with legal penalties if you guess wrong, so TurboTax can use fearmongering and deception to get people to pay for their software and add-ons.

  • Or if you aren't sure if someone is being sarcastic and forgot the /s.

I've also used it to try to find out what country someone was in when relevant to the discuss (ie, they're talking about relevant laws in whatever jurisdiction they're in)

  • I think their comment was more about how those content with bread and circuses will tolerate a lot more abuse in other ways to avoid risk losing those things. When doing nothing is punished by the stick of death, the other sticks seem a lot less intimidating.

  • I think on an aggregate level, its easy to prove that it is. But I don't know if there's enough evidence on a case-by-case basis to prove it by standards needed in a court of law (against someone who can afford better laywers). Curious how much people being professional company board members influences how likely they are to vote in favor of CEO bouses.

  • At the time I switched, the built-in blocker worked on a site I regularly used while Firefox+ublock did not (I think it would just prevent things from working or cause infinite ad-loops). If I wasn't looking for an alternative adblocker, would probably have never bothered switching. There's also the "get pocket change from using our browser" thing. Some may have been speculating on the value of BATs?

  • Agreed its not very honest. Transportation is about getting places, not filling roads. Average speed of the tubetrain is more than double that of cars, even without dumping all of these extra people onto the roads. After accounting for that, you would need to quadruple the length so that it can match the passenger miles.

  • Madara was trying to do some contract work for a delivery company in my dream. There was a law that certain goods had to be directly delivered by employees if it would be dangerous if in the wrong hands or something (idk) and Madara was clearly annoyed. He clearly thought "who better to deliver something like that. I got rinnegan and sharingan and OP, no one can mess with me."

  • There's already another highway 4 miles north and 4 miles south of it. There's some 2-lane each way roads between, but anything bigger or more grade-separated would be further isolate communities, take away alternative transportation routes, and take away greenspace.

  • I hate the heat too. I much prefer it under 60 to over 70. But when you're moving at a good pace and you don't have to travel 15 miles because of miles of space wasted by cars, its not bad. Also, buses/trains should have AC. If you have a well-designed bus system, you aren't waiting for buses much, if at all.

  • Biking, buses, trains, underground tunnels.

I sometimes have biked to work in the summer not far from where that picture was taken and I live like 15 miles away. Its even more comfortable if you use an ebike. Unfortunately, I get that's not an option for everyone (personally have been off the bike due to an injury this summer).

  • In middle school someone's motorola flip phone been chunked across the band hall over and over in hopes that it would break so that the owner would have an excuse to get a new one (this was when the razrs would the cool phone to have).
