  • Could you also sell your 2nd hand old main board? That would lessen the blow of a new upgrade (considering you have no need for a home server).

I have thought about a framework laptop but my laptop is a humongous gaming laptop so I don't think framework has the horsepower I'm looking for. The fact that it's modular is soooooo tempting though...

  • I found myself thinking about that. I looked at the clean water on the toilet and thought, that's the exact same water, from the exact same source, that comes out of the kitchen faucet I use to drink and cook... What a fucking waste... (water is drinkable here ofc)

I sometimes see those eastern flushes with a tap on top that you can use to wash your hands or wtv and so the runoff water goes into the flush reservoir. I thought that was a great idea but, I think recently on lemmy someone asked about something that sounds like a good idea but isn't, and someone spoke about those toilet/sinks. I don't remember what the issues were but at the time I thought it made sense not to use it.

Still kinda hurts flushing perfectly good water down the drain :/

  • I've had that in happen to me where I try to click on something and it opens a new page. I go back to the previous page. Aim for the link I want to click... Press it... refresh Click the wrong one again...

Sometimes this can go on for 3 or 4 times. I feel like I'm going insane when it happens. How can something so simple be so complicated

  • What is bio hacking?

I think the mods on this community should implement a rule or maybe a suggestion that people expand on the topic. I'm saying this because it does seem like a topic that would interest me, but without context and having no previous knowledge of it, I'll just move on to the next post.

  • Yeah there was this news story a long time ago of 2 girls that were stuck on an elevator in Lisbon (Portugal). Apparently they looked up some number on their phones for Lisbon but since they were from the US it suggested some random city named Lisbon there. They spent a lot of time trying to explain where the elevator was located until they realised it wasn't the same Lisbon.

(I think it's a true story. Might just be an urban legend from Lisbon I guess 🤷‍♂️)

  • As someone from Portugal, this was the first thing to come to my mind. Also, the show is nice overall. I just don't enjoy the American guy's forced accent. Joe was his name or nickname I think. It feels too forced borderline cringe.

Still would watch a season 2 though.

  • Scientifically it's hard to pinpoint exactly what makes EP or BP or others. Although maybe it could be done?

However, it's easy to tell BP a part from others. If you mainly use "você" it's BP. If you don't use it, then you'd have to check other things I guess. Since, for instance, Portuguese from most African/Asian countries use "tu".

Em relação ao vídeo, facilmente classificaria o vídeo como PT-BR. Apesar de não entender tudo, não só pelas expressões mas pela rapidez como é falado, consigo claramente perceber algumas expressões que dão características de Português do Brasil. Exemplos, a expressão "Aí eu falei".

  • That was a lot to take in indeed. I can't speak for other dialects, but I can understand Azorean accent absolutely fine, same with Madeira. There are some idiomatic expressions here and there that I would maybe not understand but I would still clearly call it European Portuguese.

The same goes for Alentejo. They do use -ndo ending sometimes but I would still clearly call it mostly European Portuguese.

I don't think this subject needs to be as complicated as you make it. Yes, if we deep dive we can look at things that way but I don't really think that kind of discussion applies here, nor am I knowledgeable enough to engage with you on that hahah

I do love how passionate you are about it though!

  • You're not wrong but the way I see it it's a hierarchical term.

Portuguese - all Portuguese based languages Brazilian Portuguese - all Portuguese dialects in Brazil European Portuguese - all Portuguese dialects in Portugal Angolan Portuguese - all Portuguese dialects in Angola and so on...

I'm not expecting everyone to know every expression under the sun, but those are CLEARLY Brazilian-Portuguese based so I thought it best to clear it up because people just say Portuguese most times and I feel that creates some confusion.

  • Small note, this is Brazilian Portuguese 🇧🇷 (PT-BR), not European Portuguese 🇵🇹 (PT-PT). I never heard most of these. We do have the "farinha do mesmo saco" and "comer o pão que o diabo amassou" though.
