yeah, material cost is going down while labor is going up. Most of these comparisons are for utility scale solar where economy of scale makes more sense. If your local code allows you to DIY solar there are DIY kits with straight forward instructions that make it really cost competitive. DIY solar is illegal in the sunshine state.

I agree with all but the first point, that is entirely going to depend on your utility. My net meter plan happens to be 1:1 and it's great because they also have peak/offpeak rates. I generally produce solar during the peak rates and consume most of my energy off peak by changing my habits a bit. My utility's clean energy goals are counting on about 30% rooftop solar adoption by 2035 and they're scaling up their storage to account for the growth so it doesn't look like they're going to push against it.

This is exactly what we need to focus on, driving down the costs of storage. Personally i'm a fan of molten salt storage placed at retired coal plant turbines, compressed CO2 seems like a solid bet as well. If flow batteries get their kinks worked out they can be quite cost competitive.

Those kinds of people suck, the whole point of owning a thing is to enjoy it, if it makes you happy who gives a damn that us arch users will think less of you.

I just had the opposite problem, tried to re-image a brand new laptop with windows 10, keyboard and mouse dont work in setup. Works in the bios, works in linux, doesn't work in windows until it can hit windows update. Honestly in recent years stuff in linux just works.

Yes i do because i'm one of many. Maybe i can't convince you to make a difference but i'm not going to just say 'oh well, nothing can be done'. Vote with your wallet. They're making things because people are buying them. Stop buying them. Vote for governments that make it cost prohibitive to create emissions. Join the citizens climate lobby. Just because one drop in the bucket seems insignificant doesn't mean we cant collectively stop dripping. Make it the collective norm to be minimalist, make it awkward to consume in excess. Do something, but don't pretend that we, the mass of people that are consuming things don't directly impact the decisions of those 100 companies.

i highly recommend the official mozilla addon called 'multi-account containers'. Each container has its own cache n what not. I found it very useful for when i had to use a site both as an admin and as a regular user and didn't want to clear my cache constantly.

There's a couple studies showing that even though your body can't process and remove PFAS and it just keeps accumulating, if you donate blood regularly you reduce the amount in your body by a bit each time. There are other slight health benefits to donating blood and lots of places will pay you for it. So if you can reduce your PFAS intake and donate blood you can slowly get rid of it. I use arch linux btw.

TNG is my comfort show, it's fun and interesting and sometimes cheesey but then you come across episodes like this one that get you so damn invested, the acting and story telling just blows me away. I use arch btw.

Sounds like they need something specific from chrome then. No real way around it, if those sites don't really have privacy concerns then i'd only use chrome for them.

I really wish this wasn't the default. Most people have no idea that it's there so if you're running your own DNS it just bypasses it. Mildly annoying for pihole users, problematic for IT departments when internal addresses resolve wrong and they say 'well it works in chrome so use that'

My new favorite is the minimum time between password changes. My last 2 jobs set it to 24 hours, so IT guy gives you the temp password and you can't change it for 24 hours. But wait, when you try to change it the error you get is "doesn't meet your organization's minimum complexity requirements" which does not help AT ALL and the IT guy thinks you're an idiot because you can't figure out the complexity requirements. What a great feature!

I guess my point is they made an easily accessible experience that is not frustrating to use for the average user which will help dispell the belief that linux is hard to use or that gaming is only for windows. They provided a console like experience and made it hard for normies to break it. You're free to install silverblue on the thing. Personally i'll probably re-image with arch later but for my use so far I haven't really have to change anything. I haven't run into an issue that couldn't be solved with a flatpak yet.
