  • He still faces felony charges

He's been facing felony charges for almost a decade now, hasn't he? Yeah, he can be facing them, but no one is doing anything and they likely never will.

Y'all gotta face the sad fucking truth - Ken Paxton will now be the next governor of Texas.

  • Were they really independent if this is all it takes? I've known so-called "independents" which were just people who sided with Republicans on everything except their cultural politics. They're not really independents, they're embarassed Republicans who are afraid to admit to themselves that they don't give a shit that some people will be discriminated against or attacked so they can hopefully pay less taxes. Say what you will about them, but at least Libertarians are up front that they don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves.

  • The idea of a life after death where an idyllic eternal life can be simply purchased with belief demeans and devalues this life. You will never convince me that someone believing such things would be more moral and ethical than someone who believes that this life is all we get. I would argue that such belief is a cornerstone to a lack of ethics and morals because it implies nothing in this life really matters.

  • Hey, if people want to outlaw abortion, here we go. They can surrender their fetus to the state. Win-win. Except for all the extra financial burden the state will incur and will need to increase taxes to cover. Instead of, you know, a one time payment that could be covered by the state, insurance, out of pocket, or a charitable organization.

  • Well, if you read the article, you'd know that this isn't about artificially inflating the population, but helping preterm infants survive. So are you saying that you're all for preterm infants dying when we have the means to allow them to survive? In addition preterm infants often have lifelong medical issues, some of which will drastically shorten their lives.

  • The wealthy require a functioning economy to continue to be wealthy. A functioning economy requires that there be enough money being spent. People can't spend money if they don't have jobs. The wealthy will ensure people will have jobs. They might not be great jobs and people might be treated like shit, but there will be jobs. There might be periods where there is vast unemployment, but those periods never last long.

Go ahead, see how many cashier openings there are at your nearest Walmart.

Go ahead, see how many cooper(barrel maker) or elevator operator openings there are. Before the invention of the ICE there used to be an incredible number of people involved in farming because it is super labor intensive from start to finish. It used to be one of the primary employment source for a majority of the country, the world even. Now one farmer can till, plant, and harvest hundreds to thousands of acres all by their self. all thanks to technology. Once it took tens of people to till fields, then some stone age genius invented the plow. So it took a handful of people to pull and direct the plow. Then someone realized they could hook animals up instead of using other people. Jobs are constantly disappearing and being replaced with new types of jobs. Your point is moot, as history has proved time and again.

  • Not force him out, they can force a vote for him to vacate the speaker's chair. The GOP made this new rule back in January. I suspect they thought they'd be able to use it bring the House to its knees if the Democrats regained power or some such nonsense. Or to keep Pelosi from getting it back if the Dems got a majority in 2024. Or just harass a Democrat speaker.

  • Depends what is in the contract. If the contract says devs on are the hook for any future fees they deem necessary, then the devs are on the hook. Unless they want to pay a lawyer big bucks to take on the company behind Unity with their billions of dollars of revenue and the lawyers that buys. How many indie devs do you think can afford to do that?

  • Is this a first year sort of thing or is it going to be this way going forward? Like, they didn't want to have to engineer it for the older chip because it'll be dropped after this year whereas the A17 will likely power the non-Pro Iphone 16 and the A18 will power the Pro version. I don't put it past Apple to pull some douchery to try to drive Pro sales, but there could be a logical reason for it.

  • Wow. Even a child could have told them arresting people at the vigils would be hugely bad optics and lead to immense blowback. One would hope whoever gave the order to start arresting them has been sacked, but more likely have been promoted.
