  • It's the dumbest take ever even if you're just trying to play devil's advocate, never mind making it an official state PUBLIC EDUCATION POLICY. It's like saying slaves were fed during slavery that allowed them to live. Technically yes they were fed, technically yes they learned skills, but it's all overridden by the fact that THEY WERE ENSLAVED. There's no room to find any silver lining in this situation that could potentially give any props to slave owners because it's one of the most subhuman behavior imaginable.

  • I'm not exactly sure when it started, but Play Store now has "Limited time events" that further block what I'm actually looking for. I don't give a damn about some gacha/loot box promotion some soulless pay2win app is advertising, I just want to browse for apps I might like.

  • Definitely resonates with my own personal experiences. During a period of my life where I was feeling lost and doing menial jobs and not in college like I had originally planned, I listened to a lot of conservative radio and agreed with many of the fake outrages they spoused. Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Bill O'Reilly, Jay Severin (local to Boston), etc... Didn't care too much for some of the racial dog whistle undertones, but I easily ignored it.

Now, nearly 20 years later with a degree, a career, and a family, I can't believe I not only listened, but I enjoyed, agreed with, and absorbed their talking points. I was pro Iraq war, pro torture, pro-small to no government (i.e. low taxes, no handouts), hated PC culture. Things that would have turned the odds against me in life given my status at the time and I didn't even realize it. Fortunately, id consider myself a reformed conservative today.

  • That's always been the burning question for me. Why choose one over the other? What kind of attributes should I look at to do informed comparisons? Like server uptime, number of users, which instances they've federated with (or not federated with)...

And how and where can I see all this in one place? If it's truly interchangeable, which it really isn't, then why not have a single unified web front (which makes it more like a distributed service) to reduce confusion for most normal users?

  • It's pretty cool obviously but until we can see peertube videos directly in our lemmy feed it's just a fun gimmick. Copying the URL into a lemmy search box just so you can post a comment seems a bit cumbersome. Unless I'm misunderstanding this post
