Yeah there are real advantages, the o2 arena in London is well placed too - surrounded on three sites by the river and a big carpark to the south.

You've gone straight to hiking though and are talking about crossing boulders, thats a world away from what happened here. It says he took a short walk from the carpark, likely a footpath to a scenic view, the path is probably suitable for kids and old people. It did say he was with family and other tourists carried him to the carpark so this was not a trek or hike, it was a brief walk

I think the story here isn't 'idiot fails to prepare for hike' it's more like 'hot sand can be more dangerous than you think' which is important because I would never go hiking unprepared but I would take a short walk to look at the view without really considering the possibility that the sand will melt my feet off.

A technology that'll disproportionately benefit the disabled, drunk and disadvantaged while enabling an integrated transport network by making final mile economically feasible is attacked by selfish idiots and of course lemmy supports them because it's a new technology and apparently people here hate anything new.

Google have done a lot of great things and run some really vital projects that have benefitted the world. Anyone that refuses to acknowledge that is not coming at things honestly.

It's tragic because a lot of these people aren't just missing competent literacy but all the skills required to understand the world around them, and even worse often those ways of understanding have been replaced with religious nonsense by the people that raised them.

Imagine trying to make sense of the world when you think scientists work like preachers and prophets simply saying whatever feels right or suits the moment.

It kinda feels like people who don't believe trans women and cis women are interchangeable should be the ones pushing the word, those who say 'trans women are women' surely don't want the slogan to be made meaningless by having cis women as the established term.

Yeah, NATO letting this linger and dragging their feet for no reason has resulted in so much extra suffering, it's the classic case of trying to appease people with a one second single issue attention span while dealing with conflicts that span decades and involve thousands of complex elements.

And of course trying to appease people that literally just want to see the world fall into chaos because order and the long path to social progress aren't as romantic and fun as playing the heroic idealist. So many people suffer because so few are willing to actually engage with reality.
