  • It's simple, really. It depicts which vehicles are allowed beyond the sign. For some reason cycling is also not allowed.

The camera means that there is an automatic license plate checker in place in case you ignore it.

  • Well I hardly think people look up to gambling addicts. Considering the lucky few that actually get rich from it are very lucky and very few, there are tons of people who spend money that they can't afford to spend in the hopes that it turns into a lot of money.

It's all built in cognitive dissonance, which our minds try to bend by telling ourselves stuff like 'I have the same chance as anyone else' and 'just one more and then I'll quit'.

It is in its core no different from smoking, drugs or alcohol. There is profit to be made off people who are easily persuaded they need something to make their lives better and if the product is addictive, just a couple of tries can give you a lifetime customer who spends an obscene amount of money.

And yes, usually the people prone to addiction are those who already made a lot of questionable decisions in life and who generally can't afford such an addiction.

Is it inherently their fault? Well, yes and no. Anyone can overcome these issues if they really want to. But it starts with proper education and the way parents and society as a whole sets an example. And then, should we say that we should ban these addictive things? Drugs are generally banned, yet they are still very prevalent and the illegality causes a lot of violence.

These issues are rooted deeply in our society and addicts are just victims of capitalism who are just too myopic to break free.

  • Yeah so I had this as well. Every day or so I'd get locked out, had to do the sms unlock thing which sometimes wouldn't work.

What I did is I added an alias to the account, made it the primary and removed login priviliges from the 'old' one.

For all the things you still use the address, it'll be fine. It's just MS based logins that's you'd have to change.

  • I'd keep an eye out for any talk of secession by states (I'd expect California to be high up the list). Another signal could be aggression from Canada or Mexico. As soon as relations with allies start to deteriorate, things could get bleak very quickly. Buuuuuut... The US collapsing would be internal warfare. Anything international would just be a lot of carnage and bloodshed.

  • I got the Sonoff zigbee dongle and then started migrating all my ikea stuff to zigbee in HA. When I added TRV's I tried two different models but the Sonoffs were the easiest and they work great. Now I have two very cheap presence detectors and they are also great value. I like Sonoff.

  • Star Citizen will get a story mode called Squadron 42 witch should be feature complete and it has a star studded Hollywood cast. It looks worthwile but it won't be here for at least a year.

  • To be clear, I'm the last one to say one shouldn't invest in money saving innovation. But the breaking even should be number one priority. I, for instance have all kinds of energy savers in my house that have cost me several hundreds. They'll only be returned in a few years and I need to manage them properly.

  • Oh yeah the dashboards are no issue for her. She understands most of the workflows I create. But a while back I installed the Sonoff SNZB-06P in the living room and the lights would suddenly turn off because she didn't move. And I'm still working on thermostats since the main one can't communicate with the TRV's.
